Ninemsn will begin streaming the Today show online from Monday.
Executive Producer, Tom Malone said: “It’s great for Today, as it will allow early office workers the opportunity to catch up with their favourite bits of the show right at their desks.”
A trial webcast was conducted this morning, ahead of the permanent offering next week.
Andrew Hunter, ninemsn Head of News, Sport and Finance said: “This is unprecedented for an Australian commercial television network and ninemsn is looking forward to extending Today’s audience through its live stream broadcast. This allows viewers who might be at work or away from home to tune in to Today.”
“The way people consume news and video is rapidly changing and Australians increasingly expect to be able to watch high-quality video content online. We already stream live video of all major breaking news events as they happen as well as the pre-scheduled nightly news bulletins.”
Nine News bulletins stream live in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The official launch of the live stream will coincide with a broadcast from New Zealand next week. It can be viewed simultaneously with the show at their official website.
Monday also marks the first day of the network’s new afternoon offering, THIS afternoon.

Please be aware that Exclusive Brethren & Brethren are Not the same!!!!!
If you would like to come to my business or view a Brethren Church call Gospel Hall you would in fact see you are so wrong and should be much more careful.
There are Gospel hall all over the country.
All religions are brake aways from somewhere Exclusive Brethren are an extremist breakaway group and have Nothing to do with the Brethren movement since the 1800`s .
Thank you
Please check you facts as when you keep saying Brethren you damage our good name & my business.
Unprecedented?? ABC streams and Seven streamed both The Nightcap and Sunday Night. Love how they get away with saying anything.
some of us have too much work to do… this is my time out – 60 seconds of deep breathing exercises btw 😉
@craig all though 7 where technically first with there hd multichannel, in reality it’s launch featured very little break away programming, all late at night/none at prime time, and some of the programming was sd which interrupted hd programming, plus they didnt tell anyone they were launching so no one new about it. ten hd was the first to have significant amount of breakaway hd programming
No comment on the article, but great photo of Georgie!
Great idea.
Expose the brand to more people.
Video viewing and streaming is responsible for 90% of internet traffic growth these days. If you want to increase your web traffic (and bottom line) have more video.
11am news and This afternoon should be streamed too.
The potential audience in front of PCs in offices across Australia is much larger that the potential aud of people at home in front of their TV at 11am and 4.30pm
Is there no end to the enslaving of the human race by Robot Stefanovic?
One word…. Why?
Maybe they should focus on getting the show right and drawing in veiws on the actual TV rather than the net. I wouldn’t wase my monthly broadband allowance on their s**t show.
@Shane – I meant there is no news about ch7 2nd SD, I don’t know if it will have a news program or breaks.
At one point ch7 was ahead, the first to have 24/7 HD (and still the only commercial channel to do so in many regional parts) They introduced TiVo and has a clear digital goal but now, no 2nd SD, and little is and true Internet presents for streaming shows or downloading programs.
Yeah right, gonna watch the Today show while i am suppose to be working. Or maybe i’ll just waste my download limits watching while at home. Or bette still maybe I could watch Today tomorrow when it is even less relevant than it is when it is shown today.
@Craig
Will Sunrise offer streaming as well? ch7 is getting left behind, no news for it’s 2nd SD and now this.
how do you know their will be no news on their 2nd SD channel.
Excellent idea. A sh***y show, but a step in the right direction for TV.
Of the commercial channels, Nine is ‘leading’ currently given they also stream the 6PM news. All channels should do so, but not just as a stream, but as a VOD cos not everyone can tune in at 6PM-on the dot, or stay watching for 30 minutes… Many working folks can only catch it when they have gaps in between work.
Anyway, good move Nine.
I cannot watch this show at all, so for me ‘streaming’ is not on the daily menu. Waste of time I reckon.
This is only going to be good if your ISP includes NineMSN free with their package, like some do with iView and iTunes.

The Today webcast is good for people living in some parts of Australia which doesn’t get Nine programming, such as parts of South Australia and Broken Hill. Will the webcast be available overseas though?
So when will Boland respond?
Australian internet is too slow and expensive to consider watching streaming television for very long.
Excellent news although ABC news breakfast already provides live streaming on the internet.
