Possible lifeline for Earl?

Cancelled by NBC, declined by FOX, but now cable network TBS considers picking up Jason Lee's comedy.

my-name-earlMy Name Is Earl might get a lifeline via preliminary talks by Time Warner’s TBS cable network for 13 new episodes of the series.

It follows speculation FOX might pick up the NBC-cancelled show -but that didn’t eventuate.

TBS will already run repeats of the Jason Lee comedy as part of an off-network syndication deal.

Still, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the conversations between 20th TV and TBS for new episodes are in the very early stages, and a deal is far from a certainty as the sides have to figure out whether an expensive network single-camera series can be produced under a basic cable network’s economic model.

  1. Looks like it’s dead.

“Despite reports that TBS was on the verge of rescuing My Name is Earl from NBC’s scrap heap, a spokesperson for Twentieth Century Fox Television confirms that the Emmy-winning comedy is officially dead.”

  2. I think Earl has probably run its course. It was funny in its first season, decent in its second but now.. I watched last night and barely got a chuckle out of it.

And michael – completely agree, even if your comments have nothing to do with this topic.
