Queensland crims still love their telly

First Underbelly was supposedly to blame for an increase in Queensland crime. Now State of Origin has achieved the reverse.

stateooWhat is it with Queensland media’s linking between television and crime?

In April the Courier Mail reported that local police blamed Underbelly for an increase in crime.

Today the Sunday Mail says crime drops when the State of Origin matches are on.

It reports that during Origin I on June 3, serious incidents involving police were minimal, compared to the two previous nights where there were four armed robberies, an assault causing death and two suspicious fires.

Queensland police report quiet nights every time the Maroons take the field.

Spicks and Specks was probably on the same night but no truth to the rumour that criminal elements are hanging out for another round of “Substitute” or “You’re the Voices.”

  1. This is total crap there has been wars and crime in the world for 1000s of years, TV has been around 50 or so years!

Yes there might be more people off the streets watching but those criminals just go and rob the service station the next night!

  2. why wouldn’t crims watch state of origin, they do have tvs even if they had to steal them. on origin day plenty of people leave work early, businesses are closed all day or early, state of origin is like a bloody public holiday, everyone goes on about it and there are only a few of us who are not interested. i would not be surprised if the crims stayed home, heaps of other people do, the streets are empty, they don’t live in a bubble, why would they not be affected by tv events.
