Ramsay apology: “I am deeply, deeply sorry.”

UPDATED: Gordon Ramsay finally eats humble pie. But now his mum says she never spoke to him about the incident.

grm1UPDATED: Ramsay’s mother tells News Ltd: “I haven’t spoken to Gordon since the weekend.

“He calls me every Saturday for a chat. But I certainly didn’t tell him off about what he did in Australia.”

Did Ramsay borrow that line from Grimshaw who told 3AW days earlier her mum had been upset by the remarks?

Even the Prime Minister urged him to issue an apology. Today, Gordon Ramsay did just that.

The controversial chef spoke to Nine’s Tony Jones, screened on both Nine News and A Current Affair. He issued an unreserved apology, taking full responsibility.

“Tracy, where do I start? You’ve shown me great respect,” he said. “An amazing support over the last three or four years. And I”d just like to take this opportunity for the stupid comments, and…deeply mortified that the whole thing has gone this far. My apologies.”

Ramsay said the gag had been taken out of context and gone too far, continued by him following the Melbourne Food and Wine Show after Grimshaw declined to take his phone calls. He likened himself to “a petulant teenage who gets frustrated when he gets ignored.”

He also disputed some of the reporting of the incident.

“The tapes are there. I never ever, called Tracy Grimshaw a lesbian,” he said.

“I’m going to put my hand up in the air and apologise for hurting her feelings. But also, on a personal front it was never a vicious attack like it’s been played out to be.”

Ramsay said the pig image was in reference to a gag about swine flu.

“It was stupid and it was very careless. It was not there to hurt in any way.”

graReferring to the comments by Kevin Rudd, Ramsay indicated even his own mother had been disgusted by the story.

“When your mum rings you and its a bollocking down the telephone then of course you start to get the picture.”

He said the comments occurred during a flippant moment in his live cooking show when the pig image was screened.

“Somebody cross reference me to Tracy and I turned around and said ‘you’re going to get me into serious trouble, that’s not the case.’ I did not say that was Tracy Grimshaw in that picture. And then the whole thing just took on a different course.

“You’re in front of 3000 people, you’re creating a laugh, you get carried away in the moment and then you don’t have time to edit what’s been said.

“If any of you guys had called my wife a pig and it was in front of me, I’d punch your lights out. I am deeply, deeply sorry for the hurt that’s been caused. And I accept full responsibility and I want to put it to bed.”

tgaca1On ACA Grimshaw seemed keen to put the matter behind her.

“I didn’t expect Gordon Ramsay to apologise. I didn’t ask for it and I didn’t think it would help. But it has and I accept it.”

Grimshaw said weekend phone calls from Ramsay via third parties were insisting it was a joke.

“I didn’t believe an apology was on offer that day.”

She said she believed it took a lot for Ramsay to turn around from everything he had said over the past four days to apologise, “and I appreciate it.”

She added, “Of all the insults that were flung around in the last four days, the insinuation that I was gay, whatever word was used, was not one of them. Some of my best friends are gay. And their homosexuality is as irrelevant to me as my heterosexuality is to them.

“His apology to me was polite and genuine and I’m glad of it. I really don’t plan to say anymore.”

  1. Ww love Gordon Ramsay, he brings happiness to people and is a happy chap! Tracy on the other hand is a miserable B***h who has her nose stuck up her B**t!

    We love you Gordon!!

Love this quite – and the fact that she has even mentioned it….

  3. This “feud” between Grimshaw and Ramsay has been about as believable as the feuds between pro-wrestlers in the WWE – its all about generating buzz – for 9, for ACA, for Ramsay, for his restaurant, for Crown – they must all be laughing their heads off, and whoever the PR genius is who came up with the idea, they are probably getting a huge bonus right about now.

  4. I have to watch Gordon Ramsay now that Tracey has exposed him as a hard, edgy and critical bas*ard. Ch9’s coverage just makes me want to watch his show to try to understand the man better. Just joking…I’m not a brain dead ACA viewer….talk about Ch9 manufacturing a story……does it really work?

  5. Nice work channel nine. The arranged stunt paid off. I too can’t believe this was news, not only for one day, but for half a week. What has the journalism in this country become?

  6. I’m still expecting 9 to drag out this story another few days. My money says Ramsey’ll be on the screens soon again. As soon as 2.5 men gets stale and starts haemorraging numbers, we’ll see gordo back on C9 again and the love-fest new.

    Lets move on…..

  7. The guy was, is and always will be a loud mouthed, foul mouthed pig.
The quicker his shows are all gone the better all will be.
Although there are some good parts in his shows, the majority is just plain loudmouth crap from an seemingly uneducated person who can not use normal language.
    Just get rid of him.

  8. Enough of this s**t already. The fact that this was a top story for pretty much 3 days just proves how down the toilet journalism has gone is this country.

  9. “If Nine reported news as well as they made it lately they’d The One again.”

Well said Rob. Nine has played the susceptible viewers beautifully.
Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, real news and current affairs are reported…

  10. Talk about being dragged over the coals! That C9 reporter was worse than Tracey at her worst!

But Tracey’s acceptance was the most (only?) sincere thing I”ve heard her say in yonks.

Gordon – there’s plenty of us on your side. You’re actually more welcome in Australia more than these knee-jerk reactionists would have you believe.

  11. I guess this means Nine will be putting Ramsey on 5 nights a week again now they’ve kissed and made up and think everyone is interested in him.

  12. Whatever his excuses were, the fact that he made a proper, and heart-felt apology to Tracy Grimshaw, I think is quite big of him, and he’s earnt my respect for that.

  13. Well taken Ramsay four days to say sorry too tracy, with all bad press from media in that time he knows his career is in trouble now.Well in future hope he shuts his mouth and does the job he gets paid to do,he is a chef isnt he lol.And l thought tracy was gracious lady in response to his sorry, true class from tracy.Sad that Ramsay with never have half the class that our tracy has.
