Returning: Rush

Thursday nights just got a whole lot more interesting with TEN confirming it will be the new night for Rush.

rshThursday nights just got a whole lot more interesting with TEN confirming it will be the new night for Rush.

The TEN drama will return Thursday July 16 at 8.30pm.

That pits it against Trouble in Paradise and whatever Seven has in store, given Grey’s Anatomy is coming to an end soon (Seven will begin double eps after Private Practice ends).

It will also be the only Aussie made drama on the box after 7:30pm. Well… The Footy Show likes to manufacture a bit of drama but that doesn’t count…

The 8:30pm timeslot should give the show a bigger audience than it was attracting against All Saints, given it is an earlier timeslot. It also forces the show to be M rather than MA rated (last year it was regualrly M rated anyway)

The second season of Rush will be considerably longer this year, with new cast member Joelene Anderson.

  1. Would be nice if Rush could nab 1.2 each week. Thats exactly what TEN need on Thursdays – a show that consistently rates. I hope its better than the first season, Id hate for it to sit on around 800k.

  2. This is the most sensible timeslot for Ten to put it in, I’d expect it to consistently grab figures of 1.2 mill, possibly even higher as the weeks go on. Let’s see if it lasts longer in this slot than The Strip, yet another one of Channel Nine’s horrible dramas (Canal Road anyone?).

  3. How cool would it be if Seven brought city Homicide to Wednesdays, we’d have Sea Patrol Monday, Packed to the Rafters and All Saints Tuesday, CH Wednesday and Rush Thursday. Thats the kind of Australian TV lineup you want to see

  4. Yay, finally something to watch on Thursdays. It does need a good lead in show though. Thursday usually a low rating night anyway isn’t it. Or maybe thats just because there’s always crap on Thursday.

  5. David, I know this is a bit off topic, but I saw a promo on Ten the other night for Glee, do you know when they plan on showing this? I was thinking Sunday nights after Merlin finished but from the promo’s on youtube I’ve seen I’m guessing it will have to be in an M-rated time slot?

  6. shouldnt be put on a thur! s.v.u did fine getting an average around 1.2m when it was on thur 8.30, so really there is no problem with thursdays except tens refusal to return s.v.u. the problem days are weds and fridays, so really they should have put rush 8.30 wed, and move the non rating house to 9.30 when it returns.

  7. A good timeslot with less competition for Rush, although I don’t know what the lead-in will be like – we already have the modest-rating Rules of Engagement and then it’ll probably be the equally dismal 5th Grader. Hopefully people will give Rush a go so it can have numbers more like Sea Patrol Season 1 and less like The Strip, both former 8:30 Thursday Aussie dramas.

  8. Awesome! Thursdays is one of the evenings which are relaxing for me and it’s good to see something interesting will finally be on TV that night.
I wonder what TEN will put on 7:30PM Thursdays seeing as MasterChef finishes soon and The 7PM Project will only be 30 mins right?

  9. Cool that Rush is coming back, I thought that it was going to take oure the NCIS spot when that ends this week or on a wensday night after SVU.

So what’s going to happen to Criminal Intent is that going to be on after Rush or move to another day?

  10. Really, the show was never really MA rated. I’ve watched a couple of so-called MA rated episodes last year, and both of them were tame even by M standards.

So I was not in the least bit surprised when the first season DVD was granted an M rating for “Violence, themes, sex scenes and coarse language”.

Ten are just playing it safe in light of the Big Brother/Californication debacles of years past.

  11. ten should consider moving a 90 minute MC to Thursday for that week.

they will have to do three double episodes of RUsh if they want to finish it in 2009. i’d say there’s a good chance 7 will put the amazing race up against it.

  12. I think Rush is great and I agree that it will be good to have something to watch on a Thursday night.

I think the only reason it doesn’t get the massive ratings is because it is actually an intelligent show not lowest common denominator like PTTR – Michael’s comment below illustrates this perfectly.

  13. Should be a relatively easier spot for Rush to score some decent numbers, hopefully – the show deserves it.

It will have the exposure of the final week of Masterchef….hopefully Ten start to pump out the promos now.

And given Greys is over, it gives me something new to get stuck straight into. It should get 1.2 at a minimum in this slot – similar audience to Law and Order ?(crime) makes sense. Though Thursdays are lower rating nights which could be a problem.

  14. Yay im sooo excited. I love this show. This is the perfect slot for it, and it gives me sumthing to watch thursdays. i must say thou, it would have an even better chance of doing well with a better lead in than what Rules is provding CI at the moment. Also im assuming CI moves to 9:30 since Medium is almost finished. In saying that it should do at least 1mil, hopefully head to the 1.2mil region by the end of the season.

  15. Bloody hell for me. Ten better make episodes available for online viewing. I work every Thursday night so I will never get to watch it live on air. I was hoping for Wednesday 9:30, that way I could have TGYH, S&S, TCWOE, Rush then FG all in one night. Oh well. 🙁

  16. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Thursday is a rather low rating night, but it’s certainly better than pitting it head to head with All Saints or Rafters.

Ten would be expecting a little more than 900k out of it this time. Especially when their much cheaper reailty series are booming at the moment.

  17. .At Last, I’ve been looking forward to the new Rush, some really talented Aussie actors already there, however with Jolene Anderson added this season Rush can only get better.
My Husband recently whinged that none of his favourite Aussie made crime series were being shown at present. I just told him that it’s all about ratings ……..not us the viewer !!

  18. Great time slot, finally something to watch on a Thursday. This was a great show last year, and really hope that it has the same quality this season.
