24 finale: Melb & Adel

24 finishes its season this Sunday, except in Melbourne and Adelaide.

24-KieferKiefer Sutherland fans in Melbourne and Adelaide… you can thank the AFL for this one.

The final episode of 24 screens around the rest of Oz this Sunday night -except in these two cities. They’ll have to wait a week later.

In Melbourne, Seven is contractually obliged to screen a match between Hawthorn v North Melbourne, which it’s opted to do at 11pm, thereby bumping 24‘s finale by one week.

Adelaide is already a week behind the rest of the country for similar reasons.

The final 24 screens on July 19th at 11pm in these cities, but July 12 elsewhere.

As Jack Bauer would say: “Dammit!”

  1. I agree with all the comments in relation to 7’s treatment of 24 and the relatively large loyal viewer following – pathetic 7!

I still haven’t seen the finale – has it been screened in Melbourne? I sent 7 an email a couple of weeks ago and they ‘true to form’ haven’t responded.

I rarely watch the channel because they are not availabe on Foxtel digital (how smart are they?) and after the 24 fiasco, they will have to screen a very exceptional show for me to bother messing with av settings to switch over.

  2. if execs in 7 had another brain, it would be lonely! Moving to the late time slot was the big mistake, bugger Political Correctness, they are too woosy to admit the truth that viewers are not dumb. After this week’s events in Melbourne, talk about Timing!! Left at 8.30 from Season 1, it would have given parents some valid issues to discuss with families, instead of “Big Brother” controlling how parents bring their kids up and taking away parents rights. Giving rights to kids they don’t even need yet is just absolute crap.

  3. You’re all wrong – season 2 was the ripper lol. This season is the last one I’ll watch on 7 – I could deal with it being behind the states by a good few weeks, but the 11pm start was just too late. I DVR’d a lot of it, but for such a great show, it really deserved more respect. Next time, I’ll probablysee it as they appear in the states.

Might I suggest to 7 (should anyone from there be looking at this) that they put the shows on the digital channel at least at a respectable hour. And also – if they can repeat old magnum PI shows, maybe repeat some old 24 – so people can get interested in the show – so by the time the next season comes back (if they actually put it on 7) more people will have a grasp of the show. A lot of people i know dont watch 24 simply because of the “if you miss an episode, you’re lost” excuse.

On a lighter note – I have a feeling that Tony will come good in the end – he wants to kill the head of this organisation. Maybe I’m reaching, lol. If i’m wrong (and it turns out that Chloe is the actual mastermind)….then Damnit Chloe!!!!!

  4. Love 24. But the last episode of this season i watched was when the Minister and his wife were locked in the safe room. Haven’t watched since they switched the time slot. This show deserves better. Especially when they can justify putting shows like 10 years younger, world’s strictest parents on at better times.

  5. According to Seven’s contract with the AFL, Seven has to show Sunday afternoon matches played in Canberra and Tasmania at late night Sundays.

  6. It has been awesome but has taken forever to come around.

Some other seasons we have had up to 4 episodes a week, this time it felt very long and drawn out. It was still one of the best though

  7. Why is 7 contracted to do so when its already airing live on fox sports?? I thought that 7 only had to air 2 games per round. Friday night, and Sunday afternoon matches, this means they will be airing 3??
This doesn’t make much scene at all..
    David?

  8. I love 24, and didn’t really mind the Sunday night slot because i just PVRd it and watched it on Monday after work.

That said, even though it had a fairly uninterrupted run this year, despite being in different slots, i ended up getting sick of waiting a whole week to see the next ep.

  9. Yet another reason for Seven to get off their butts and launch their 2nd SD channel!

They could air 24 on their this week, the re-run it (for those without digital) on the main channel a week later.

Still this is not as bad as some show, Gilmore Girls in some states are still to air the 2nd half of the final season which ended in the US more than 2 years ago, and this is largely due to sports interruptions.

    Sorry for the rant.

  10. Where do they get the nerve to do this?? This season has been brilliant from the very beginning. My 3rd favourite only to season 1 and 5!! I cant believe it got over 375k viewers last week and what do they get for it? a demotion. If channel 7 knew it was bound by contract to show the stupid AFL game for which I can watch that same game live on FOX sports, then why didnt they air the last 2 episodes on the same night or show the final episode during this week? Pathetic just Pathetic!!

  11. Stuff that!!! Just Buy the DVD! Why am I not surprised the AFL and its Running dog Channel 7 would stage something like this!! They already have and (put your bottom dollar on this) will continue to treat Good shows like 24 like S**t, they did it earlier in the season when they hardly even advertised for the new season, then bumped it not once, not twice but 3 Ttimesin s*t house timeslots!! Now this?? Stuff it Im getting it on DVD!! To hell with you Channel 7, its happend now and it will happen again!!
