ABC acquires FM, Boy Meets Girl from ITV

New comedies with Chris O'Dowd and Martin Freeman will be heading for the ABC later this year.

fmThe ABC has picked up more than 40 hours of drama from ITV for broadcast on ABC 1 and ABC 2 later this year.

The deal includes the ITV Studios comedy-drama series Boy Meets Girl, starring Martin Freeman (The Office), as well as FM, which stars Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd) and comedian Kevin Bishop. The show features music from up and coming artists and also guest stars from the music industry.

It has also picked up season five of the crime drama Blue Murder , starring Caroline Quentin as DCI Janine Lewis, a single mother of four and tries to balance a demanding career with taking care of her children.

Marena Manzoufas, ABC programmer, said, “We’re all very excited to be announcing this new slate of ITV Global programming for ABC. Earlier this year we premiered ITV’s hugely popular Lost in Austen and the latest instalments of Agatha Christie’s Poirot and we are currently showing Agatha Christie’s Marple, so we’re looking forward to bringing more of the best U.K. drama to our millions of viewers.”

There will also be repeat screenings of Jeeves & Wooster (1990-93) starring Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry and the costume drama Hornblower, starring Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four).

  1. Thanks god they saved FM!! It’s unique and I like the mixing between music and comedy like the long gone “the young ones”.

    I can’t forget the episode about the mustache and them looking like sexual molesters.

  2. Stan, no need for sarcasm. There’s no harm in hoping the ABC programmers are reading this. They repeated season one last year, so I have been hoping season two would get the same treatment.

    What other programmes have you missed that ABC should air again? Maybe you could write to them & see if you can get your remote control directly linked up with their programming department?

  4. The last time I saw Martin Freeman he was on a ‘sitcom’ about a hardware shop – the worst place he could find himself – ughh.

    Looking forward to seeing him redeem himself in FM 🙂
