Airdate: Double Take, TV Burp

Seven slips Double Take into Thursdays, its once-glorious Fast Forward timeslot, to be followed by TV Burp.

double take2Seven has announced its new sketch comedy series, Double Take, will move into a Thursday 8:30pm slot from July 23rd.

The timeslot was the traditional home for Fast Forward’s legendary run.

This series is half the length, 30 minutes, and put together by the team behind Comedy Inc. Produced by FremantleMedia Australia, it will parody TV shows, movies, celebrities, politicians and more. Many of the cast of 7 are theatre performers, and will be relatively new to TV viewers, except for former Comedy Inc’s Paul McCarthy.

It will be followed by Ed Kavalee’s TV Burp, based on a UK format Harry Hills’ TV Burp. This is described as “a comedic trip through the ‘week that was’ in television.”

It insists “no show, no channel, no celebrity is safe!” Good to hear.

It premieres 9pm Thursday July 23rd.

  1. How to create a Australian sketch show.

    1. Add to cups of bad writing
    2. 1 tablespoon of unattractive actors
    3. Over do the Punch line until your eyes start to role
    4. waste your viewers time for 30 minutes in the oven.
    5. And Finish it off with a sprinkle of just plain crap

  2. This was a an unmitigated shambles – I was actually enraged by how lame, tired, cliched, amateurish and unfunny this hack writing and unwatchable acting was. The Late Show, Micallef and the D-Gen showed us that Australia CAN do entertaining sketch comedy. What is not required are cornball ‘skits’ , ‘takeoffs’ and wretched impersonations that depend entirely on hair and makeup, but genuine intellect to bring out the humour in the issues of the day.

Take this bucket of sh*t behind the shed, shoot it several times and bury it in a deep, deep hole.

  3. Double take was from the very first sketch, weak, poorly acted, predictable and I think at best could be compared to amateur night at a uni review. The show that followed,TV Burp had a basic good idea but seemed to faulter at actually getting the writers idea to the viewer.I think assistaance to the people involved in TV Burp would really benefit the show, some encouragement from some of our top comediens and directors, I could see what they were trying to do but lack the experience to get their ideas across, don’t give up though you’re nearly there.

  4. finally something to watch on Channel 7 Thursday Nights and it is not a heavy medical drama.
I used to be a big fan of their Thursday Nights back in the Out of the Question,Amazing Race and Family Guy/American Dad/Scrubs Days but went off after they put Medical Dramas on at that time of night.

  5. “What a waste of time this show will be! Aussie skit comedy is dead, why do 7 persist in putting this crap on!” – WTF? You’d rather watch drab police and medical dramas? I say bring on more aussie comedy! The more the better. It’s people like you who probably hate the Chasers boys and all, shame on you…

Well done seven for bringing more variety to television!

As for TV Burp, could be good, Ed was good on Get This, let’s hope he does good things with his new show.

“will TV Burp just another Good News Week, but shorter?” from what i saw of the UK version on youtube it looks more like Russell Brand’s Ponderland than a Good News Week sort of show. Ponderland was ok, but Brand was annoying. Good News Week makes fun of the news, whereas TV Burp looks like it makes fun of TV shows.

  6. I gotta say Paul McCarthy’s mimicry is superb! He’s got an excellent Kevin Rudd.

Paul should write and produce a Cliff Hanger show imagine 6 eps of “To Catch A Fallen Star!” I’d see that!

  7. Seven will hope Double Take has some longevity. Recent sketch shows such as The Wedge, Big Bite, Magda’s Funny Bits, skitHOUSE, and (notoriously) Let Loose Live haven’t survived more than a year or two. The only success I can remember is The Wedge’s early ratings and Comedy Inc’s long run, which continued its run as a late night series. As for TV Burp, despite the terrible name it looks like it has potential. Who knows how it will do ratings-wise.

  8. @ Andrew

I think it will be Criminal Minds Repeats until Sept when new episodes are expected.

I think CH and Beyond the Darklands will replace DH and B&S on Monday nights in 3-4 weeks.

  9. The UK version is must see TV- just look it up on youtube, it’s half an hour of side splitting comedy.

Could work well considering this countries tendency to take the p**s out of everything!

  10. That just leaves Wed 8.30 as the remaining unanswered TBA on the 7 advanced guide for that week. Wonder if that will be City Homicide or if CH waits until Bones finishes soon for a return to Sunday nights.

  11. Good to see that soon on Thursdays we’ll have local content on all three commercial networks!

Guess I’ll have to record Double Take and TV Burp though since it clashes with Rush. 😛 Still, as Jerome said it should live in harmony with Rush and Trouble in Paradise. The shows are distinctly different from each other and will attract different audiences.

  12. Damn! Because I work thursday night shifts, I will have to fire up the old VCR on Thursday nights. I am looking forward to both shows, especially Double Take. I loved Comedy Inc. and had watched virtually every single episode over the 5 years it was on. Now this new version seems to focus on just plain parodys instead of a mix of parodys and original skits, like Comedy Inc. did. Should be great to just watch 30 minutes of parodys. I also think the promos for TV Burp could have been done better. Surely there are better things to show then the Neighbours and TBL clips.

  13. At last something worth watching on 7 besides Bones.

I love sketch comedy so I’ll give Double Take a go. Tv Burp sounds promising so might try that as well. It’s the perfect time slot for me as I’m not a Rush fan & 9s Trouble in paradise I only watch if nothing else is on.

  14. double take looks like great high budget TV. Paul Mcarthy is a real talent, he is out tina fey. his K.Rudd and kochie impersonations are unbelievable. there are some really good clips for this show over on yahoo7. i suggest the underbelly parody.

TVburb looks like a shocker. i feel sorry for Ed.

it’s in a good slot, should live in harmony with Rush and trouble in paradise which is what a good TV world is.
