Ben Silverman, who has been Co-Chairman of NBC Entertainment since 2007, will depart to form a new production company. His appointment followed the success of his former production company Reveille, which produced The Biggest Loser, Ugly Betty and The Office. But whilst making executive decisions at NBC he was forced to sell that company to Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine.

Despite reinvigorating NBC in his early appointment, more recently he has struggled to carve out new hits.

Silverman was also a fan of adapting overseas formats, including Kath & Kim. But after approving a US series he had to watch as the show failed to fire.

Silverman has struck a deal with Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActiveCorp to launch a new production company that the two said would “unite producers, creators, advertisers and distributors under one roof,” but continue to deal with NBC.

He will remain in his current role until September to assist in the launch of NBC’s fall schedule.

  1. i 100% agree with jason, this is the best news to come out of NBC, all you have to do is look at NBC and MSNBC, its very good that he is gone and i hope they find someone who actually knows how to run a tv station and more important someone who actually cares about tv

  2. This is the best news to come out of NBC in almost a decade! Silverman was a poor choice and disgrace compared to some of the giants that preceded him like Warren Littlefield and Brandon Tarkitoff, to find an NBC programmer who was as lacklustre you have to go all the way back to the late 70’s/early 80’s and study the record of Fred Silverman (ironic, no?) whose shining contribution to American television was Pink Lady and Jeff!
