Justine eliminated from MasterChef

One of MasterChef's most popular contestants, Justine, was eliminated from TEN's reality series, for the second time.

JUSTINEOne of MasterChef’s most popular contestants, Justine was eliminated from TEN’s reality series tonight, following a pressure test cook-off. She was just defeated by Poh.

It was the second time she was eliminated, which led to a lifeline return to the series.

The remaining contestants faced off in a pressure test that required them to bake an elaborate chocolate mousse cake, layered with several delicious ingredients made by Adriano Zumba. In a chaotic cook-off, the demands unnerved them all.

Guest judge for the night was Bill Granger.

Judges Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan were getting teary at the send-off.

Matt said, “You are very unique in what you can do and I know if I don’t see you in a week, or a month, I’ll see you again and you have a bright future in this industry. Thank you so much for being one of the bright stars.”

Gary added: “You know what’s funny. He (George) wants you in my kitchen, I want you in my kitchen. Matt Moran wants you in his kitchen, Guy Grossi wants you in his kitchen, and Jaques Reymond wants you in his kitchen. Think about that. That is amazing.”

Chef Matt Moran also congratulated her at the end of her run, offering to be her mentor at ARIA.

Tomorrow night either Chris, Poh, Julie will be eliminated before the final two face Sunday’s final.

  1. I’m quite glad Justine hasn’t won – because she seems like she’s both a nice person and talented and I’d like to see her succeed.

Sure, the winner gets $100,000 (living expenses while you set up your restaurant, maybe?) and a cookbook deal, which will no doubt be rushed out in time for Christmas. Then everyone will flock to their restaurant and will put them under the magnifying glass. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. But Justine, Julia, and everyone else has the luxury now of going away, doing what they choose in their own time without being pressured by agents, managers, or whoever. Wait 5, 10, or 15 years and let’s see who has the successful food-related business and/or best-selling cookbooks and/or top rating TV food show and/or is mentoring up-and-coming chefs and/or is happy with how their life has turned out!

  2. 2 things with masterchef…..you can almost tell at the start of each elimination episode who looses as they interview all the contestants after the whole thing and then slice the snippits back into the show…when julia went you could tell she had been howling her eyes out and the had caked on so much mascarra she looked like phyillis diller after a night on the grog….and last night justine’s eyes were all red…..julie on the other hand was all chipper in her snippets…..the other thing they need to fix is the sending off of the challenge winners…when they come back they cant handle the pressure and no one likes themor wants them to win cause we have not seen them and couldnt care less…..but its a great show none the less……..

  3. The Matt Moran thing was clearly a set up. Hello! There was a camera filming Justine when he knocked on her door! Real or tricked-up, I don’t care. It makes for great viewing!

  4. Julia and Lucas were not disadvantaged as they got a free pass to the final week. That was a huge advantage, and it was up to her what she did with her time while she was away. Everyone else had to go through 2 eliminations a week to make it to this stage of the competition. If Lucas and Julia had not won those celebrity challenges, they probably would have been eliminated long before now because even though both are good cooks, they do not work under pressure very well. Julia lost because she did not cook or understand Malaysian food…her own admission. If you were in a competition like this, wouldn’t you be studying every night the different styles of cooking and learning what ingredients makes each style unique? She had plenty of time to study and practice while she was away not being threatened with elimination every week. I don’t think either Julia or Lucas used their time wisely while they were away.

  5. I think its a bit rude for Matt Moran to stalk Justine so she feels pressured to work for him. Matt is an old school Gordon Ramsay clone that no one likes anymore.

Justine should name her price first.

  6. Overall, I have been totally impressed with Masterchef.
The way they improved on the UK version isamazing.
However, thislast week haseft me flat.
A finals weekshould be fair to all.
Lucas & Julia came back and got raw endof stick.
Too much advantage to Chris &Poh.
And my final comment – I would have thought last week, judges would test dishes blind – It appears they put up wtih mistakes by some contestants but aslight error by another is sudden death.

  7. I have also decided to boycott Masterchef. The best cooks have gone. The judging has been totally biased. The judges decision should be subject to a court of law the same as his business practice is at present. (This is karma- what goes around comes around.)
To top it off “Salmonella Chris” is the cook who dishes up raw chicken to the judges.
The concept of a pie is now redefined – 2 thin bits of pastry.

“Australian Chef” – No! It is the “Aussie Con”

  8. I agree with Christopher, Poh has been given a massave advantage (twice) and still made a mess of her cake. She can only cook one type of food anyway, I don’t care who wins as not as it isn’t Poh!

  9. chris is simply an as#hole!! and yet the judges seem to like him. i noticed tonight justine hugged julie and poh and just walked past chris! good on her! now you people tell me if you saw chris in a restraunt looking like that, would you be happy he is making your food? i def wouldnt be!

  10. @ Tony H

At least he wears some sort of hat. I wonder what the judges would say if a hair was found in the food. In fact, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already

  11. Very interesting again tonight. I too was devastated to see Justine go, however she will now move on and be mentored and earn money towards her future vision of her own restaurant and I guess most of us viewers wish her every success.

I’m beginning to believe that Chris is going to win as he has had the most previous experience, I doubt it will be Poh and quite frankly I don’t think Julie should still be there.

I fully agree that the prize for winning against a celebrity chef have totally backfired. Lucas and Julia were away from the others for far too long and this ruined their chances.

I hope they get the format fairer before the next season of Master Chef !!!!

  12. What the hell Alex, she didn’t walk away, she was eliminated because she quite clearly made the worst cake.

The issue with this final week is how massive an advantage Poh has gotten just from winning a single challenge which went on to basically hand her a free pass for the next couple challenges (and even then she still made the second worst cake). The producers seem to be stuggling with their prizes. First the prizes for winning against a celebrity chef have totally backfired as they were the first two elimanated this week, and then Poh gets a giant helping hand for winning one little thing.

Not that it matters, it’s been obvious for a long time that Chris will win it.

  13. it was soo sad to see her go!! and matt was especially teared up! i was soo happy when matt turned up at her house to offer her a job! so she really did get what she wanted out of the show!! now chris just has to go 2mrw and it will make my decade!

  14. As much as I am disappointed that she isn’t the winner, I have come to realise that most of the tests they have this week aren’t reflections on their cooking abilities, as they have to invent entire dishes in ridiculously limited times. In the real world they would have a lot more freedom, time, and resources to perfect anything they do.

So she may not have won the game, all the final six certainly have proven their ability.

  15. I am so annoyed that shes leaving. Words can’t describe it. I don’t normally get emotional by tv shows but Masterchef without Justine, isn’t Masterchef and I really don’t have much of a reason to watch it anymore. I don’t really care who wins now, as long as it’s not Poh!

My advice: Boycott the rest of Masterchef and let the producers no that letting Justine walk away wasn’t the smartest thing, they should’v asked her to come back, again!
