Nine confirms GO!99

The Nine Network has confirmed GO! as the name of its new entertainment channel, with a slew of titles set to air.

go99The Nine Network has confirmed GO! as the name of its new entertainment channel, a name first revealed by TV Tonight in April.

Set to launch on August 9th, the channel will offer themed nights including reality on Tuesdays, science fiction on Wednesdays, and female-skewed content on Thursdays.

Titles will include Fringe, Survivor: Gabon, Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Gossip Girl, The Hills, Moonlight, The Big Bang Theory, CSI: NY, Neighbours at War, Bad Lads Army, The Bachelor: Officer & A Gentleman, Dog The Bounty Hunter, The Wire, ET, CSI, Just Shoot Me, Little Britain, Aliens in America, CSI: Miami, Eleventh Hour, Privileged, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Seinfeld, Hell’s Kitchen and Wipeout Australia.

Some titles including The Vampire Diaries will start on GO! instead of the traditional Nine channel.

CEO David Gyngell talked about the the offering of the channel versus pay television.

“If you’ve been paying a thousand dollars a year subscription we might be able to give you a reason to save a thousand bucks.”

The youth-driven channel is targeted 14-39 year olds and available to viewers with digital television or a set top box.

CEO of PBL Media, Mr Ian Law said: “the launch of GO! is an important step in the evolution of free television in Australia. It means a significant increase in the choice available to viewers and advertisers on free to air television. We think the proposed schedule for GO! is exciting and as a Network we are focussing very much on having two channels with distinctly different content.

“We are already in the market talking with advertisers about our offering of Nine and GO! and it is a very exciting time for Australian television and the PBL Media Group.”

GO! will also be available on WIN. TV Tonight hints that there it could be GO! 88.

  1. It sounds great, but if only 9 were able to hang onto Smallville, so they could then put it on here alongside Terminator and Fringe. They gave it to 10 and 10 no longer has any place to put it since they got rid of TENHD, so they gave it to FOX8, but it is going to be ages until FOX8 gets up to what hasn’t been seen already on TV in Australia (as they’re currently showing series 6, I think).

Still I’m hopeful 9 may somehow get it back as they got Terminator back after I thought they had sold it to FOX8.

  2. Lets hope it’s available on WIN from August 9 as well and not just some indeterminate future date (still shuddering from the delays in getting OneHD).

  3. how are these budding channels paying for shows if they’re always crying the poor mouth from low advertisement on the main channels?
…. does my head in…. can anyone explain this?

  4. @Michael TEN is using it’s 2nd SD to simulcast ONE HD for people without HD digital tuners…

As for the others I prefer them using the HD to show their main channels in HD to get the most from their top shows but I don’t see why they are limited to one HD channel, let then do the same for each SD and we’d have a lot more FTA channels and ‘freeview’ (if they still exist) can have 20 channels to gloat about.

  5. So David with the anti-siphoning list does this mean well get the Pilot on the main Nine SD then the rest on GO!?

BTW good to see Aliens in America on the list, even though I watched it over 2 years ago!

I hope 9 dont similcast anything on 9 and go

And, er, Michael, what does Nine SD air? Repeats of I dream of Jeanie, followed by repeats of Bewitched and The Brady Bunch, meanwhile the better stuff is only on GO!99, don’t think so…..

  7. Disappointing to see that Nine’s new multichannel has little mention of any Aussie content. They bag ONE HD about its content but at least it has quite a few hours of unique Aussie programming (netball, swimming, boxing, poker, marathon, ST, TNL, etc etc).

  8. I hope 9 dont similcast anything on 9 and go

go should be independent of 9s main channel.
unlike the stupid and wasted abc, sbs ,seven & nine’s hd channels

now when are 10 going to launch a second sd channel 1hd is sport & 12sd is sport.
Or am i missing something here?

  9. Ok, so this channel is going to air all these shows on the HD channel, exactly what are they going to air on Nine standard? Or are some of these shows like curb your enthuasism, csi NY/Miami and a few others(but not all) will air on both(GO!99 and Nine SD).

  10. Apologies for not reading the comments (there’s too many!)

Q / How does The Wire being shown on GO!! occur if ABC are gonna be showing it too? Will it just be a case of different stations having different series? Can people think of instances of this occurring before?

  11. Forget about Moonlight (a cancelled show) and Just Shoot Me (that finished years ago). Nine should screen double episodes of the now finished ER show’s remaining eps, as well as the V scifi series and the Eastwick series, neither of which will rate for Nine on their standard network. Nine should also screen the True Blood HBO series, Damages season 2 and 3 that they stupidly onsold to Foxtel and also the Nip/Tuck series.

If Nine can get the rights back to the Smallville show off Ten (who don’t care less about it anymore) that they sold them to, Nine could and should screen
Smallville season 7, then continue screening it’s 8th and presumably final 9th season as well. As Nine should have the rights via Sony, Nine should also screen The Shield show’s final season 7 (that’s 2 years old now), since Ten don’t care less about it. I’ve already seen it, but it should still get an airing.

is Go99 going to be on iq1 for cable like one did with the SD channel

Don’t think so James, I would suggest Iq2 only(the HD equlivent for foxtel).

  13. @par3182: Just Shoot Me was made by Sony Pictures Television. Nine gets the rights to past and present shows made by SPT with the current output deal.
A question for David though: if anti-siphoning regulations are changed, will Nine be allowed to show Friday night and Sunday afternoon NRL on GO!99 outside NSW, ACT and Queensland?

  14. I’m glad Nine are stepping up to the plate, even if the channel seems to be mostly composed of axed shows and repeats. But more choice can only be good for viewers. Which brings me to the following statement: get your act together Seven!

  15. Another fta channel excellent.

And now we just wait and wait and wait and wait and wait for an announcement about an announcement from seven

Come on seven, what are you waiting for?
    Pathetic seven pathetic

  16. Does anyone like that name!?

GO! seems so Bingo era to me, it’s a youth channel so be youth related!

Also, this August 9th thing is partly surprising… but it is the 9th. haha.

    🙂
