Nine set to Dance Your Ass Off

Are you ready for Dancing with the Stars meets The Biggest Loser?

dance-your-ass-off_lGet ready for Dancing with the Stars meets The Biggest Loser. Nine has picked up the rights to the US series memorably titled Dance Your Ass Off which has just premiered on the Oxygen Network.

Oxygen is a female skewed cable network, which once picked up the US rebroadcasting of Neighbours.

The show, hosted by Hairspray actress Marissa Winokur, features twelve finalists amassing to 1361 kilos with one goal: “to go from an eating machine to a dancing machine.”

Each contestant is paired with a professional dance partner who will train for weekly stage performances ranging from Hip Hop, to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing.

Judges will score routines as contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall eliminationscore.

“They are having the time of their life and they are shedding weight,” said producer Sally Ann Salsano.

“We are delighted to bring Australian viewers this fun new series for the whole family to enjoy,” said Nine’s Head of Acquisitions, Les Sampson.

Earlier this year Nine announced Superstars of Dance, but so far it is yet to arrive.

Dance Your Ass Off is promised to premiere in ‘coming weeks.’

  1. This is goingto be good!

Am I dreaming? Am I finally going to watch a show that’s for the younguns on Nine?!

For this one to be a success, Nine should learn its lesson from HomeMade – Promote Promote Promote Accordingly! Just the right mix of promotion to attract teens would be great — just like how King TEN promoted MasterChef!

It’ll be great to see an Aust version as well…Beauty!

  2. sounds like crap show but it is on Oxygen which is a female cable network and im a guy, but if 9 didnt pick it up arena could of, it would of fit into their female cable network. Also premiere in ‘coming weeks’ wish i could say that about GO99, if it does well they could also move it to GO99 to get people to upgrade to digital tv, but i dont see that happing. It looks like 9 is trying to get some viewers from 7 & 10(dancing/SYTUCD) both i dont think it will, they should of got Americas Best Dance Crew from mtv for their new Youth GO99 channel

  3. Not bagging the show itself, have seen snippets of it here and there… i’d probably watch it. However i don’t hold out much hope for 9 actually screening it once… let alone keeping it on air for it’s entire run without a timeslot change of some sort.

  4. I have to agree with Michael – I think this may be worth a look – don’t get me wrong – I can’t stand the Biggest Loser because it humiliates its contestants and uses the most unorthodox methods to push rather than encourage these poor folk to lose weight – and even once they’ve lost the weight the host and the show’s producers will tempt the poor sods with boxes of donuts and cream cakes. It’s just so wrong that show!

Why I think this show might differ is that the contestants will lose weight without necessarily being humiliated, they will do it in a healthy way, they will learn a new skill and they will probably feel very motivated – they will not have to strip down to their undies and they will be competing on two levels – their dancing skills and their ability to lose weight.

I’m prepared to have a look at this one!

  5. What a pack of negative a**holes you all are……

The show aims at improving peoples health. The dancers are willing contestants, wanting to lose weight, and have a bit of fun at the same time….

Most people are sitting on a couch eating Pizza and watching Dancing with the Stars, or So you think can Dance and are thinking “i wish I could do that”…. Now they can…

If Ten had bought this, most of you would say “fits right in to their demographic”…. but because it’s Nine…..

    You’re so boring.

  6. umm…is this a joke? its one of the dumbest ideas for a show i’ve ever heard. not surprising that channel 9 are picking it up to complement their other trashy shows.
