Tasmanian viewers will finally get ONE HD from Thursday July 30th.
The 24 hour sports channel will screen from 7pm.
The announcement follows negotiations by Tasmanian Digital Television, a joint venture between Macquarie Media and WIN Television.
TDT General Manager, Stephen Giles, said that ONE would be available to television viewers in Tasmania who currently receive TDT’s high definition service.
“Tasmanians certainly love their sport and, from 30 July, ONE will be the home of sport on Tasmania TV,” Mr Giles said.
ONE will broadcast sport, 24 hours a day and will be accessible for all viewers with high definition television sets or set-top boxes.
Viewers in Tasmania have been angered by a delay in the arrival of the channel, which started on TEN in March and to Southern Cross regional viewers on July 2nd. Earlier today Tasmania’s Consumer Affairs Minister Lisa Singh issued the joint venture duo with a “please explain.”
There are no plans for an SD version of ONE on TDT.

Arrived home from Melbourne yesterday to find One HD already on my tele in the TDT HD channel position… I re-tuned the Topfield HD Set Top box thinking I would then get TDT HD channel as well as One HD but it’s not happening… so is it right that Tassie have lost TDT HD and can only view channel ten shows in SD to receive One HD sports channel in HD?
Hope this makes sense as it’s been doing my head in!
Networks can only have one HD channel, so TEN around the country lost TEN HD including all its drama, light ent etc in high def. Tassie would have followed suit since the advent of ONE HD. Crazy choice but there u go…
Marcos drove a top race the wall in turn 4 came close and what driving when smith almost wrecks marcos on last restart
So when is it Mildura’s turn!
Great!
Based on the ratings we’ve seen for One about 5000 Tasmanians will be tuning in a night to watch
@Jane: WIN owns half of TDT. Macquarie Southern Cross (which owns Southern Cross TV in Tasmania) owns the other half.
Why on earth is WIN television involved in the negotiations? Isn’t WIN the regional equivalent of Channel 9?
Hi David,
Thanks so much for keeping Tassie updated with OneHD. PS. can you please also keep your eyes and ears open as to when Win and SC may launch new digital channels?
Josh they have had their hands full. This just isn’t on the table, at least for SC. Have heard nothing re WIN.
I’m sure it will happen, and am glad of it!
After all this is the first time Stephen has come out and given an actul date – I say give him and the station a break.
Well done Stephen!
Awesome – now we just need to make sure that we don’t get the same AFL match shown on SC, TDT and One (as we do now with SC and TDT). Combined with the ABC’s coverage of the TSL, I don’t think that Australian rules needs to be on 4 out of the 8 FTA channels we will have!
David-will there be a prize for the first person who asks “will there be an SD version”? 😉
July 30 eh, well after the previous so called delays when they were going to start, I will beleive it if I see it now. Hell why not flick the switch now now if you were ready way before now.
Thank god were not waiting until the end of the year. . .
Finally!
Mind you…it wouldn’t suprise me if it once again doesn’t happen…
Oh OK… I didn’t think the last page lasted that long. Congrats again on the success of your site.
And now for 7 to announce a launch date for their 2nd sd channel
That was quick David, did my post make you check it out?
After I posted it the Press Release arrived!
