Returning: Gavin & Stacey

Seven brings back the UK comedy and NZ version of 10 Years Younger in 10 Days to replace Surgery Saved My Life.

gavin-stacey-castSeven will remove factual show Surgery Saved My Life, which aired to 487,000 viewers last night after next week.

From Tuesday July 21st it replaces it with the New Zealand version of 10 Years Younger in 10 Days at 10:30pm.

Wonder if we’ll see rural contestants from Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu on that one?

More enticingly is the return (or even premiere) of UK dramedy Gavin & Stacey. Seven played one episode of this in February in Sydney and Brisbane, so this will be a premiere for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth viewers.

It follows featuring Mathew Horne (Roman’s Empire) and Joanna Page as an Essex Boy and a Welsh girl who fell in love and got married. The difference in backgrounds and culture doesn’t hinder their romance, which flourishes when they finally meet for the first time after a good deal of flirting. Only their life isn’t quite so simple…

Lipstick Jungle
is pushed out to 11:45pm from July 21st and Interns to 12:35am.

  1. Bazza,

I agree with everything you wrote & I love ABC2’s work too. I wasn’t trying to be mean. Yet, off the top of my head, ABC2 seem to be getting a few shows that started their life on other networks – such as The Wire (Nine) & Torchwood (Ten). Knowing that, & if I was a fan of Gavin & Stacey, I’d much rather see that programme on ABC2 than Seven (like most BBC content)… 🙂

  2. lol @Stan…

ABC2 has better programming than the three commercial stations these days. It’s more reliable too, they show a complete series and they show it in the order the episodes were produced. That’s something 7 9 and 10 seem incapable of anymore.

Nor does ABC2 run the ridiculously high rotation that the commercial stations seem to adore now. (Channel 10, all Simpsons, all the time) Generally they show a complete series perhaps twice, about a month or two apart, then that’s it.

Last, but far from least, the ABC2 EPG is mostly accurate to the minute. Channels 7 and 9 could stand learn a thing or two in this regard.

  3. Hmm… Gavin & Stacey moving from their dumped Saturday night slot to Tuesday nights is a bold move by Seven. And to think I had my money on that show cropping up on Australia’s home for unloved TV programmes, ABC2, sometime in the future. :/
