Returning: The Librarians

The merry band of staff at Middleton Interactive Learning Centre return under the watchful eye of Frances O’Brien once more.

4ABC’s 2007 comedy series The Librarians finally returns to screens next month, with the merry band of staff at Middleton Interactive Learning Centre under the watchful eye of Frances O’Brien once more.

Most of the original cast return for the comedy starring and co-creatd by Robyn Butler, alongside husband Wayne Hope.

This year being head librarian of this outer suburban library is harder than ever for Frances – especially when her right to the throne is being threatened by her Muslim colleague Nada (Nicole Nabout) – touted as the N.B.L (Next Big Librarian).

Meanwhile, Frances can’t seem to get anybody’s attention. Ky (Keith Brockett) is in love, Dawn (Heidi Arena) is broken hearted and Matthew (Stephen Ballantyne) is exploring his sexuality. Neil, (Bob Franklin) the convicted thief, is back – a free citizen and proudly wielding a Middleton library card. Father Harris (Kim Gyngell) is on sabbatical – Frances is at sea.

Both Wayne Hope and Roz Hammond also return.

Guest stars will include Vince Colosimo, Noni Hazlehurst, Hamish Blake, Tony Martin, Francis Greenslade and Denise Scott.

The first season of Librarians was nominated for a prestigious Rose D’Or Award in Switzerland.

It premieres Wednesday August 5 at 9pm on ABC1.

  1. The first season of this show was pretty terrible and not funny, though not as
extremely bad as Wayne Hope’s own series. Roz Hammond is definitely the best thing about it.

  2. So when is Safran coming to our screens then? I was hoping, and speculating wildly, that it would be post-Chaser.

Any idea, and have you seen a preview David?

  3. It’s so great to see this show coming back.. it is fantastic, but its been a long time coming (about 2 years since series 1). Glad to see its back! Will definitely be watching.

  4. did not enjoy the first season at all… a hit and miss for mine although the guest stars as mentioned might bring it to life….chris lilley please hurry up and finish whatever you are doing (summer heights high 2 maybe?) and get back onto our screens… we are missing your talents !!
