Rieu tops Neighbours ‘weirdest’ storylines

A UK soapie website has named Andre Rieu's appearance in Neighbours as the 'weirdest' storyline the soap has ever seen.

andre-rieuUK soapie website Last Broadcast has named  Andre Rieu’s appearance in Neighbours as the ‘weirdest’ storyline the soap has ever seen.

In the guest appearance which aired in April, the Dutch violinist emerged from a limo to serenade Paul Robinson and Rebecca in the middle of the street, to be joined by other dancing couples. Later they were seen waltzing at Rieu’s live concert.

It (oddly) pips the dream that Bouncer the labrador had in 1990 when he dreamt of marrying a sheepdog called Rosie. Gold!

It also names the 2005 plane crash over Bass Strait in which many of the cast were doing some sterling pool work (in the former Man O Man pool).

Susan’s amnesia, Santa flies over the street and Zeke’s cross-dressing singing also rate a mention.

Alas, ‘Afro Harold’ didn’t quite make the cut, nor did any of Lou’s zany quick-rich schemes.

Let’s have some more suggestions, guys!

  1. @koverstreet : cant say I pay too much attention to Neighbours demographics but im betting it always does well in younger demographic, if not wins it most days.

I dont think the Neighbours ratings are as bleak as some may have you believe, sure it would be great to see it 900,000+ average regularly, but whilst it continue to wins the demo and get over 800,000, TEN will be happy with it. (not to mention the contract with five)

  2. And the vast majority of that 900+ k is 16-49 with very little 55+ so ideal for TEN.
Who would you rather advertise to boring middle age types who watch ACA/TT or the young hipsters who watch Neighbours? Unless your APIA of course lol..

  3. KFed, ratings are actually at a recent years high for Neighbours at the moment, alot of 900,000s recently, a couple of 1,000,000.

ok some of that is down to Masterchef, but so far this weeks its all 900,000’s

Ive not seen enough of the new Ramsays yet to comment, but im hopeful that they may finally drag the show out of slump its been in the past few years.

Cant argue with the Andre Rieu storyline however, the show should drop the celebrity cameos.

  4. Ugh. I wouldn’t go all out comparing last night’s Neighbours to the likes of Twin Peaks or The X-Files. Come now. It was ridiculously contrived. Neighbours has been so painfully unmemorable over the past few years that the scene felt like a desperate attempt by the writers/producers to orchestrate a scene that Neighbours viewers would remember in the years to come. They failed. 😛

Ooo! I remember another weird moment… in 2007/08, one of the kids was playing with an ancient 1989 model Gameboy… riiiiiight. 😛

  5. The thing that solidifies Dee and Toadie’s car crash is definitely the ramp that can be seen under the car when you pause just at the right spot, and the bad crash test dummies in the front seat with said veil.

Mind you, the pilot episode is weird when Scott Robinson has the nightmare… kinda sets the tone for the next 20+ years doesn’t it…

  6. Human Nature coming back to Toadie’s when they were lost on their way to a gig?
The secret, ridiculous, secret offsrping of Anne Robinson and Max Ramsay turning up – and dying in her first episode?
I love Neighbours, but it is in need of some surgery right now.

  7. It was pretty out there and surreal and easily the weirdest death on Neighbours ever. And although it was quite magical the thing I found most interesting was Bridget knowing exactly when she would pass over. Quite deep for Neighbours and almost Xfiles-ish in it’s implications

  8. it has to be last nights ‘alice in wonderland/david lynch-esque’ death dream Brigitte had…as it aired here last night it obviously hasnt aired in the UK-but surely they will be adding this in a few months…truly odd…

  9. The Wiggles happen to be driving up the Ramsay Street cul-de-sac where they here music from inside one of the dwelling and they crash Flic’s 21st (or was it 18th?)

Remember that gem? Didn’t she just recently say that the show had *become* too outlandish. haha

  10. Wasn’t there once a storyline where some Asian neighbours were accused of eating the other neighbours’ pets?

High-class examination of suburban racial polotics at its best.

  11. Last nights episode of walking into the light and waving goodbye to Declan and the baby was just wierd, I couldn’t quite work out what the script writers were thinking when they wrote that one!
