War is over. Chaser calls it quits.

The boys from The Chaser's War on Everything have confirmed the end of their ambush sketch show, with just 2 more eps to go.

chaserwarAfter some speculation last week following comments on their Wednesday night show, The Chaser’s War on Everything team has confirmed the end of the show.

During the week the picture was somewhat unclear. A spokesperson had told TV Tonight they could only confirm the end of the current series, on July 29th.

But yesterday the Herald Sun confirmed the War brand would end, the second ABC show to announce its closure in as many days.

Following their ‘Make-a-Realistic-Wish’ sketch the show was suspended for two weeks. The ABC also truncated their episode order by a further two weeks.

The Chaser team will instead focus on new projects. Executive producer Julian Morrow said he was “interested in doing different sorts of stuff” including a possible narrative comedy.

Earlier this year we saw another of their productions, Lawrence Leung’s Choose Your Own Adventure.

Chris Taylor will also present Australia’s Heritage: National Treasures: Eureka Flag on August 6th on ABC1.

  1. I thought the last few episodes have been good.

But the first season late on Friday nights was the best. Because they were unknown so they could get more naturalistic reactions from people on the street.

I was reminded of that feeling from the overseas segment, the brash charm in dealing with people who have no idea what is going on.

  2. Yep, the comment about there being two episodes remaining “ever” at the end of Wednesday’s show pretty much made the end of the show a foregone conclusion. I’m kind of amazed that anyone needed to speculate. I just heard that and drew the obvious conclusion.

I’d be interested to know, though, whether it was driven by their own reasons, or if they were pushed into it by the ABC…

  3. CNNNN and the first 2 seasons of Chaser were excellent, and the Chaser Decides will no doubt come back.

Good work boys, bow out before you become too much yesterdays material.

  4. very said to see this show gone, Now Comedy channel needs to ‘pick up’ this show for new eps, isn’t that what cable networks are all about.

  5. Shame but they’ll still be doing other stuff, which is welcome news.

This series was patchy, but has def. improved, especially after the ‘make a wish’ incident.

Last few eps have been among their best.

  6. It had become a bit stale a while ago. CNNNN was great and the first series of War was good but I think it is definitely time to call it quits. I look forward to seeing something different from the guys.

  7. Should have done it a season ago… They could have left on top and have people hungry for more. Instead, they got greedy and are left licking their wounds.

That being said, I would be interested to see a narrative style show.

  8. I’ve never really watched the show. I’m not a fan of political satire or practical jokes, so most of their humour never did anything for me.

However, I have seen some of their other sketches that they flesh the show out with – the songs and silly stuff – and thought they were genuinely clever and funny.

I’d like to see them be less deliberately controversial, and do something more traditional in flavour.

  9. Hasn’t Julian Morrow been saying for months this would be the last series of The Chaser’s War on Everything? In fact, didn’t they go into this series with Julian saying publicly it would be the swansong of War? A quick websearch confirms this was out there in the e-ther and metro press some time ago.
