Seven is moving on its soft Thursday line-up, beginning next week.
It will premiere the US sitcom Gary Unmarried with two eps from 7:30pm from September 3rd (UPDATE: 2 eps in Sydney / Brisbane only. One in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth)
In doing so it pushes The Amazing Race back to 8:30pm, TV Burp to 9:30pm and Double Take to 10pm.
That leaves My Name is Earl out (still airs on Wednesdays) and a repeat of Scrubs abandoned.
Family Guy repeats remain in place at 10:30pm.
A week later, on September 10 Gary Unmarried reverts to a single episode while How I Met Your Mother repeats at 8pm.
Gary Unmarried stars Jay Mohr as divorcee Gary Brooks who owns a house painting business and bought his own place after his divorce. Now his life revolves around trying to move on from his marriage to Allison (Paula Marshall) and get back into the dating scene. The show is essentially about two very different people sharing custody of their kids while starting new relationships with a cast that also features Ed Begley Jr.
CBS premiered the series last September and has given it a second season.
This week’s line up remains as scheduled.

Seven will be hoping Gary becomes their next hit sitcom now that Earl is done. Scrubs hasn’t got much life left in it apart from repeats, and HIMYM, while enjoyable, has never been a massive success in Aus. Its a pity they can’t move 30 Rock or Its Always Sunny forward, it could pay off. I doubt this will get 2.5 men-like numbers but it will probably be Seven’s own Rules of Engagement.
this reminds me. on the yahoo7 homepage there is this ch7 ad slideshow thing that loops through about 8 slides. about a week ago one of them was for parks and recreation ‘coming soon to 7’ maybe that will take the 8:00 slot in a few weeks.
there are 6 eps in season 1 and it has been renewed for a 2nd season.
This means TAR will be up against Rush at 8.30pm … my younger brother likes Rush and TAR so he will have tape one of them.
Great way to build an audience, keep moving the timeslot until people stop caring, which for me was last week,
not a timeslot problem but I can’t stand Kavalee’s bobblehead and cheesy delivery. He hasn’t improved at all since the first episode.
I have watched the entire first season of Gary Unmarried and really like it 🙂
I think it might do ok here.
Agree with andrew B -much rather Amazing Race at 7.30, It willfind it hard at 8.30 against Rush
No worries for me. I’ll watch The Amazing Race instead of Rush. I do like the fact that it was moved … if it was owned by another network (not mentioning any names) it would have been cancelled (along with DT and TVB).
The Amazing Race never rates that well … it seemed like a filler IMO. Maybe they could run all the series we missed on 7Plus or whatever the hell they’ll call it …
Thats not to bad now i can watch Glee when it starts on channel Ten and still be able to watch TAR afterwards.
@Amir – ITA they should air the remaining Sam Who eps, another good show gone before it’s time, wonder what will happen if Christina Applegate wins the Emmy this year?
more reason to tune into rush
At least the Family Guy is still there.
Australia moved on from the single parent/friend with the ex out on the singles scene/annoying child crap a long time ago.
They haven’t made anything like what we have in Two and a Half Men or The Adventures of Old Christine Since the My Two Wives Days of the Early Nineties or for that Matter Late for School.
Now we get it all imported from America and it is worse.
How annoying of Seven, slotting TAR at the same time as Rush. All for some sitcom with a title that rhymes (ingenious, CBS!) and repeats of another IMO average sitcom. I guess I’ll be missing out on The Amazing Race. On the upside, I’ll get to tune in to TV Burp.
What ever happened to Samantha Who? Pair it up with Gary Unmarried instead of HIMYM repeats!
One of the best ‘bumps’ done by 7, I much prefer A-Race at 830pm than 730 because that’s a tad too early.
I would do:
7:30 gary
8:00 TVBurp
8:30 TAR
9:30 double take
10:00 scrubs
it looks like 7 have given up on TVburp, not many shows that get demoted timeslots come back for a 2nd season.
Well it only took them 11 months to air it LOL
I liked Gary, it’s harmless fun but I agree it’s not a stand-out show so I’ll be surprised if it lasts the season in the same time slot before being moved to late night.
I’ll probably continue fast tracking it myself in September…
Yes – 3rd time slot for Ed!
Good point frantelle Ed’s gonna be a busy boy keeping up with the time slot changes:)
Gary Unmarried is a fairly ordinary sitcom I wouldn’t have thought it’d fair better than Amazing Race. If Big Bang Theory can’t rate after a Two & A Half Men lead in, I wouldn’t have thought the even more painful Gary Unmarried could hold up a night.
Why is the US stuck in the “single parent/friends with the ex/out on the singles scene/annoying child” crap?…..we have 2.5men, Adventures of Old Christine, Rules of Engagement, etc…and now this???
And Jay Mohr…. the human equivalent of gouging your eye out with a fork…….
So much for 7 trying to be different…
So does this mean that we’ll be subject to further wall-to-wall reminders from Ed Cavalee that the time slot for TV Burp has changed again? Let’s see whether they just dub the new time over the previous ad and cross out the old time for the new time. After all, it’s bound to move slots again within a week or two.
The Amazing Race should do better than TV Burp / Double Take at 8.30, but Gary Unmarried looks very average.
“How I Met Your Mother repeats at 9pm.”
Do you mean at 8pm David?
My bad.
Gary Unmarried doesn’t sound too bad but I reckon it will probably do worse then TAR.
At least TV Burp is still on that’s all I care about.
Amazing Race : More likely to watch (again)
Another bland US sitcom : What station’s the cricket on, again?!
Didn’t think the Wednesday night copy after 9.30 would last on Thursday nights.
I don’t think the 7.30 line up will do any better than Amzaing Race – more likley worse. Should leave Amazing Race at 7.30 and then have a comedy night from 8.30 on.
