Next Sunday night Seven has slated Helen Mirren's award winning turn as Queen Elizabeth II.

mirrenNext Sunday night Seven has slated the excellent Stephen Frears film, The Queen.

It is set to air following Dancing with the Stars finale at 9pm.

While it’s based on fictional conversations between the Royal Family around the time of Princess Diana’s death, it’s certainly a fascinating hypothetical. It depicts a fictional account of the events following her death in 1997, coming 3 months after the coming to power of Tony Blair’s New Labour government.

Helen Mirren won an Academy Award for this role, plus a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild award. Michael Sheen is also terrific as Tony Blair.

It airs September 6th.

(either that, or just put on my DVD copy haha)
nonetheless, I feel Channel 7 has done an excellent job this week, what with the anniversary of Diana’s tragic death, and the airing of “Diana: Last Days of a Princess”. If you haven’t seen it, it is certainly worth a look, and definitely needs to be followed by “The Queen”, as it picks up where Last Days left off.
