Amanda Keller fronts Electric Dreams

The lively Generation star will host a series in which one family's house is fast-forwarded from the 1970s technology to today.

amkelThe success of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation continues to prove to be a revelation for Network TEN. Now regular panellist Amanda Keller is to have her own 3-part series, looking at technology.

Keller, who previously fronted Beyond 2000 and Mondo Thingo, will present a short-run series later this year that will look at how developments in technology have affected lifestyles in the past 40 years.

Electric Dreams will follow one  family as their home is “renovated” to the standard of a typical house in 1970 and then fast-forwarded at the rate of a day per year through the 70s, 80s and 90s (we expect the obvious theme tune, please!).

Like Micallef, Keller is enjoying a commercial resurgence thanks to Generation. She will also return to the second season of SBS’ Swift & Shift Couriers.

Electric Dreams is one of several shows TEN announced to media yesterday, designed to fill its schedule in the second half of the year. As well as its Christmas edition of Generation being filmed this week, TEN also signalled a New Year’s Eve event to be hosted by Shaun Micallef “and friends.”

TEN also confirmed Three Rivers, starring Alex O’Loughlin and The L Word‘s Katherine Moennig.

“The schedule for the last quarter of this year is undoubtedly our strongest in years, headlined by Celebrity
MasterChef
and NCIS: LA,” said programmer David Mott. “We intend to maximise the expected high audience in Celebrity MasterChef to launch and feed this audience into NCIS:LA and new exciting US drama Three Rivers with Aussie star Alex O’Loughlin. All three shows will premiere Wednesdays from late September.”

TEN also flagged “day and date” broadcasts of other shows including NCIS (October) and Lie to Me, but incorrectly included Dexter and Burn Notice in the same turnaround (these have actually aired in the US already).

  1. Can’t wait to see Alex O’Loughlin in Three Rivers. The premiere in the US of this medical drama is set for Oct 4. Does this mean Aussie’s get to see it before the States??? I’ll take this show whenever it arrives here. Alex is an Aussie talent to keep an eye on.

  2. Definitely be watching this , like I said in the Magda Spearman Experiment story I loved watching Mondo Thingo, so hopefully this will be as great as that was, even if it is anything like James May’s 20th Century that has had a run on SBS it should be good with Amanda at the helm.

  3. I’ll watch this, Amanda Keller is always good, a class act. I loved Mondo Thingo. She’s great in Swift and Shift (but then again, so’s everyone) and she’s great on My Generation.

  4. I’m glad I’m not the only one who is hoping that comic genius Micallef isn’t becoming overexposed.

At the start of Monday night I thought that 2 evenings with Micallef would be fine, but finished my viewing last night thinking his appearance on GNW was a little contrived.

  5. I know this off topic but do you think Ten are at risk of overexposing Shaun Micallef. Last night he was on 5th Grader and then made a guest appearance on Good News Week. I hear the Celebrity Masterchef producers calling.

  6. Sounds like a brilliant idea for a series and I’m sure I’ll be hooked. I miss Mondo Thingo too that was a great show.

And if by obvious theme song you mean the one by Phil Oakey I agree it’s perfect and there’s no other choice really.

  7. Maybe they are planning on fast-tracking the new seasons of Burn Notice and Dexter as they will be out of new episodes by then with Burn Notice being a 9 ep run and Dexter 13.

  8. Huh? Is this Christmas in August by filming the Christmas special of TBYG this week?
Three Rivers will be up against Desperate Housewives (as well as NFL) on Sunday nights in the US so that will be an interesting battle.
The second season of Lie to Me will be shown on Fox network in the US beginning Monday, September 28 and, like House, will be affected by Fox’s coverage of Major League Baseball Playoffs including World Series (which Ten’s HD channel ONE has the rights to). If LTM is not shown due to baseball then Ten must find something else to screen in its timeslot.

  9. It would be great to see her hosting her own show again. She is warm and smart and should give 10 another dose of the warm and fuzzies. Nice idea !
