bhFormer Prime Minister Bob Hawke has been involved as a consultant on the new Channel TEN telemovie Hawke, currently filming in Melbourne.

Richard Roxburgh plays the title role, which promises to be a “warts and all” look at the colorful politician’s rise from trade union leader to PM.

The telemovie will touch upon Hawke’s alcoholism and womanising.

“It’s there, there’s no point in it not being there,” Roxburgh told the Herald Sun. “But it’s not there to the detriment of other elements of his nature.

“I began this (research process) by reading thousands of bits of information about him and then watching every available piece of footage.

“I have such a deep admiration of him that has grown over time.”

Rachael Blake appears as former wife Hazel Hawke. Asher Keddie will play Hawke’s present partner, Blanche d’Alpuget. Felix Williamson will play Paul Keating.

Hawke is produced by Richard Keddie, who made the wonderful Curtin plus After the Deluge, and Little Fish.

It will air in 2010.
