Bold & Beautiful in historic win at Daytime Emmys

After 22 years, The Bold and the Beautiful has finally won its first Best Drama Series award at the Daytime Emmys.

sfIt’s only taken 22 years, but The Bold and the Beautiful has finally won its first Best Drama Series award at the Daytime Emmy Awards (it may have helped that there were only three in contention, the other two being All My Children and Days of Our Lives).

The View’s Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Sherri Shepherd won for Best Talk-Show Host, defeating Regis & Kelly, Rachel Ray and Ellen DeGeneres. But the gals didn’t bother to travel from New York to Los Angeles for the ceremony after being snubbed as Best Talk Show.

The cateory has never been won by a multiple-host program over more than 35 years.

Rachael Ray actually beat The Ellen DeGeneres Show as Best Talk Show.

In other interesting results Judge Judy lost to Cristina’s Court (yes they have a whole category devoted to legal) and Dr. Phil lost Best Talk Show (Informative) to The Tyra Banks Show.

The ceremony included a grandly staged tribute to Sesame Street upon its 40th anniversary, which came a curious time in its awards history. For decades, Sesame Street so dominated the race for best children’s show that, in 1995, the academy spun off a separate category for pre-school children’s shows just to get it out of the way and let other juvenile programs share the gold. Ever since that new category was formed, Sesame Street romped through it too — except this year when it was beaten by Between the Lions at the Creative Arts ceremony.

In the Creative Arts, Australian composer Christopher Elves won for Animalia.

  1. Aww I’m so happy for B&B! I don’t watch it much anymore, but it is one of my guilty indulgences every now and then.

I’m ridiculously happy that Dr Phil didn’t win, even though I don’t like Tyra Banks.

  2. About time Bold win an award! I am big Bold fan, but I am register to many of their fan sites. Many read about the show than watch because they are boycott, because they broke up Brooke and Nick. I am one of them but we are still fans of the show. I know I sound nuts, forgive me!

  3. Yay for B&B! Can’t believe I’ve stuck with it for 22 years! How many times can they recycle the Brooke-Ridge-Taylor storyline? It is shamelessly good soap opera, with quickly moving storylines (compared to other soaps), so has deserved the win after all this time.
