Britain’s X Factor just set its audience on fire with another vocal discovery, 27 year old school teacher Danyl Johnson.
Danyl is so accomplished, not to mention easy on the eye, that it’s hard not to believe he is a professional.
He sings a Joe Cocker cover and has the stadium audience in raptures within seconds. Total feelgood telly.
Simon Cowell gave Danyl a standing ovation and described it as “single-handedly the best first audition I have ever seen.” Lookout Susan Boyle.
ITV cleverly disallows embedding of clips so check it yourself here.
(on another note…these X Factor directors cut this show so brilliantly…. they put in every storytelling shot in the book).

Daryl is a natural, better than Susan!
Brett – Seven did pick up X-Factor back when Idiot Idol was new…but it bombed big style.
Thanks for the story David……i will now watch the series 😉
Love BGT, but have never really watched X….. I will from now on… well at least the auditions
I’ve been very excited waiting for The X Factor to arrive, its production is so much better than Oz Idol.
I agree, i cant understand why no one has picked it up here in Oz, it could be quite clever if another network did as it could show up Idol for ten. Although i do still love Idol.
There’s been better auditions – no way near the best in the 19 series of various shows Simon has done.
Why isnt X factor screened in Australia – I simply dont get it.
With our very own Dannii Minogue featuring as a judge, Im surprised that channel 7 or Foxtel haven’t picked this up.
Channel 7 could def screen this to maybe challenge & thankfully bury Australian Idol!
He has a really good voice. He certainly has stage presence and knows how to work an audience. It will be interesting to see what he does next. I’d like to see him ‘sing’ a bit more in his next performance.
Whatever happened to Susan Boyle?
a Joe Cocker cover?!?
How about a little respect for the Beatles, David (even Ringo).
Yeah but in this case it was clearly modelled on Cocker’s version. Which is why I put Cocker cover and not Cocker song.
Woah loud back up singers. Yes Craig, surely there would be some interest in Australia because of the involvement of the lesser Minogue and Simon Cowell.
Any chance this will be shown here in Australia, after all Fox 8 shows American Idol on the same day that it is shown in the US?
I saw his performance yesterday morning and I was blown away … he was brilliant and Simon will definitely make a fortune with him … and so will he!
Jack!
Whatever you think of his talent, he certainly puts any of the current AusIdol contestants to shame.
As does the production department. They’ve surely used up every idea ever dreamed up on that one!
He’s good, really good…but not startlingly so
Simon must be slightly blinded by all the dollar signs he can see…if Susan Boyle can rake in millions, think of all the money a young, good looking guy might make for Simon’s company.
yeah its ok but in the same audition show there was Joseph McElderry who i thought was much better and sorry to disappoint you David but much more easier on the eye 🙂
It was good..but not that great..
A triple Wow! This is a 5 golden ring Yes!!! That was a stunning voice! My goodness!
When I saw this on Sunday, I just thought it was a good auidtion, nothing outstanding. Simon’s just trying to attract attention, again.
