Gina Riley keen to write Kath & Kim

"I'm really missing the writing and desperate to really get back into it," says Gina Riley.

knkGina Riley has again indicated she is keen to return to Kath & Kim, in an interview with today’s Sunday Herald Sun.

Reprising the comedy could see it focus on Prue and Trude, or back to the foxy ladies of Fountain Lakes.

“It could be any of those, or a combination of those, it’s hard to know,” Riley said. “I’m really missing the writing and desperate to really get back into it.

“But after the fourth series we all felt burnt out, as you do, as it takes about a year-and-a-half to get it all done.

Riley is currently performing in the Australian production of Chicago and says the break from the TV show has been a positive step.

Producer Rick McKenna haspreviously said ’ alter-egos Prue and Trude could appear in a travel format showing how the ‘refined’ pair deal with the harsh economic times.

Earlier this year, Riley told Rove she was keen to start penning new ideas.

  1. Put it to bed ladies. This series has been as boring as bat droppings since about series 3. It’s become yet another “quirky” Australian comedy that soon ran out of steam and good ideas. It’s become a parody of itself and needs to die. Fortunately it’s on 7 nowadays so death is never far away.

  2. a prue and trude version would be hilarious. Those broads getting around during the GFC would be great, i bet one of their husbands would have been hit hard by the collapse of the market. I can see it all unfolding…perfection but if it takes one and half years to write and film, better get cracking economists are predicting a return before then! Here’s hoping.

  3. Yay! Would love to see K& K return – but perhaps they should add some new support cast as they seem to have exhausted storylines with existing characters?

  4. She’s been saying this for a while. Throughout the Chicago promo interviews I saw her mention in 2 that she was writing again and kept calling Jane with ideas.
