Hot Seat beats Deal or no Deal

hsmYes it’s true. Eddie McGuire’s Hot Seat had its first national win over Andrew O’Keefe’s Deal or No Deal yesterday, winning with 779,000 over 707,000.

Hot Seat won in every city except Perth.

While the show has won other nights in certain cities, it’s the first time it’s happened nationally. But as this site noted recently, Nine has been narrowing the gap on Seven in the 5:30pm race.

Of course, that said it was still TEN’s News at Five that beat them both, with 868,000. But it will be a big boost to Nine’s morale and shows rewards for sticking with a show.

Meanwhile it was Packed to the Rafters that topped the night again, at 1.89m, while Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation won its hour on 1.5m.

So let’s hear some theories. What are you watching at 5:30pm and why? And have you made a switch from Deal to Hot Seat?

Seven won the evening, while Nine had already flagged it would return movies to Tuesdays next week.

  2. If I am home before 6pm, I usually flick on the last ten minutes of DonD before Seven News. Not that I prefer DonD over Hot Seat, but I prefer Seven News over Nine’s.

  4. I honestly think, if Seven is to make any darn gains, post Deal, Curtis, it is to simply go local with programming.

    I have boycotted Hot Seat since June, in the faint hope Seven will get kicked so badly by Ten’s news, that it will axe DoNd for a proper local program in SEQ, that will finally replace Extra and then and only then will they be able to crow about their news being #1 without ratings aids…

  5. If it’s game over for Deal (and I hope it is) then Seven should resurrect Weakest Link in a revised 30 minute daily format. At least viewers could play along.

    Deal is tedious and repetitive… time to try something else.

  6. Nine bring back the Price is Right – an excellent show. Eddie deserves the win – Seven may be encountering the start of a Nine resurgence. Today is gathering momentum over the tired Sunrise and Nine News in Brisbane is looking better all the time. GO!!s decision to air Bewitched is a good one and is boosting the network’s ratings even further. It all simply shows that Seven is behind more and more the eight ball – their delay in a second SD channel may come to haunt them.
