Lyle not helming FremantleMedia

Did Variety make a boo boo? "The speculation about my move from FOX to Fremantle is complete fabrication," says Lyle.

lyle_davidLast month this site -and a number of others- reported that expat Aussie David Lyle was returning home from his US job as head of Reality for FOX, to take up the top job at FremantleMedia.

At the time it was noted that the news, published first by Variety, had also mysteriously disappeared.

Now it has emerged the story was entirely incorrect.

Lyle has since said: “The speculation about my move from FOX to Fremantle is complete fabrication. In the world of increasingly competitive journalism, it seems people have to make stories up to attract readers. It causes problems for those of us who deal in ‘reality’.”

Online journo Nikki Finke reports that Variety quietly took down the article without correcting it or alerting readers of its inaccuracy. Lyle had some choice words to say about Variety, privately telling journalists who phoned him that the showbiz news outlet was just printing rumors in what he said was a desperate bid to keep up with sites such as (Finke’s own) Deadline Hollywood Daily.

Lyle remains committed to FOX.

No news yet on who will (correctly) head up FremantleMedia.

  1. Now we know Lyle is staying put, do you have any idea why Chris Bath has all but disappeared from Channel 7? Not even a head shot in any of the station promos for the news. I think she disappeared just after all that speculation about Fergo taking Roscoe’s spot as chief newsreader., and Chris going public about how she had been promised the 6pm News when Roscoe makes his exit.

  2. This report was always dubious … because anyone who remembers Lyle’s departure from Fremantle earlier this decade knows there was no love lost when he left for FOX.

His panache is sorely missed in this market … and lost forever to the world stage is the smart money.
