Nine agrees to hold 60 Minutes story -for now.

Nine has agreed not to broadcast a sensitive 60 Minutes report until the matter returns to court.

60 MinutesThe Nine Network has agreed not to broadcast a 60 Minutes report on adolescent suicide until the matter returns to court next Friday.

The story “Searching for Answers” by reporter Tara Brown was pulled on Sunday following a Supreme Court injunction by anti-depression advocacy group Beyond Blue.

The Victorian Education Department launched its own court action the following day also seeking to have the material suppressed.

In court today Nine’s counsel Michael Whelahan told Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth, the network reached agreement with the Victorian State Government not to air the program or any part of it until the matter returned to court on August 21. He added that the broadcaster should not be prevented from responsibly reporting suicide generally.

Ian Waller for beyondblue, said Nine’s proposed orders did not prevent it from producing another current affairs segment to air elsewhere.

The network is still negotiating with Beyond Blue about the wording of the order.

If the parties don’t reach an agreement on Wednesday, Justice Hollingworth said she would make the orders.
