Philadelphia given cold shoulder by Cold Case

Cold Case used to visit Philadelphia four times a year, then twice. Now not at all.

coldcaseAnother production cut in the US television market will see Cold Case abandon the city of Philadelphia as its heart and soul.

The show used to visit four times a year, then twice. Now the CBS series will stay put in Los Angeles.

“It’s a big mistake,” says John Finn, who plays John Stillman on the show. “Love Park and Fishtown and all those places, you cannot recreate that anywhere.”

“There’s something you can get in Philadelphia that you cannot get in Los Angeles,” says Jeremy Ratchford, who plays Detective Nick Vera.

“When we went to Philadelphia, we’d all go out to dinner, and you’d walk 10 blocks to a restaurant, and you’d see probably 1,000 other people out walking their dog, walking to a movie, walking to a restaurant, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking.

“You’re out in that street, and you’re breathing that air, whereas in Los Angeles, you get in your car and you drive to the gym, and then you walk on a machine.”

CBS, which pays most or all of the production costs of the Bruckheimer series, cancelled Without a Trace earlier this year, after weighing up the expense and ratings. It was said to be either Trace or Case that would have to go.

  1. The look and feel on each city is different.
When you base a show in Philly or Chicago or Denver, you should film there on regular basis to get the right feel.

  2. “It’s a shame when any show ends not because of rating decline but for finical reasons.”

yes it is… Now and again ended after one season and on a cliffhanger for this very reason 🙁

  3. I dont get it. Philadelphia is meant to offer great tax breaks for TV/Movie productions, but I guess it’s still cheaper to stay put. Hope it doesn’t hurt the show.
