7HD adds movies for a lift
Updated: Starship Troopers, Chicken Little, Cool Runnings.... Seven adds breakout movies in a bid to thwart that extra share from GO!

Seven appears to be responding to the ratings boost that GO! has given Nine’s rating share by adding movies to 7HD.
This Sunday night it will air Cool Runnings at 6:30pm. On Tuesday it plays Bachelor Party at 9:30pm.
On Sunday 27th another family movie, Chicken Little will air at 6:30pm. On Tuesday 29th Starship Troopers screens at 9:30pm.
On Wednesday 30th The Mighty Ducks will air at 7:30pm against Hey Hey The Reunion and Celebrity MasterChef.
Updated: Sun Oct 4th 6:30pm Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events, 8:30 Red Dawn.
Wed 7th 7:30 The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, 9:30 Sin City
Any extra audience that Seven gets from breakout programming on 7HD is added to its primary channel. That formula helped Nine across the line last week, and again on Sunday night.
This form of competition is a win for viewers. As I said a few days ago, Seven could get creative if they were concerned about the ratings issue. Seems they are.
Meanwhile TV Tonight hears all stories about plans for Seven’s digital channel, including talk of a Lifestyle channel, are completely off the mark.

@ daqua_99 – Thanks, good to hear that there might be some local content coming. I suppose Australian/NZ rubbish is better than US rubbish. But what about the 55% quota, is that not being applied to new channels?
A Movie/Family/General entertainment channel would be great, would definately rate across all demos and set Ch 7 apart from the other networks
6-10 am – Disney Kids
10am-12pm – Movies
2-5pm – Disney
5-8pm – Sitcoms/Dramas
8pm-Onwards – Genre Movie Nights
@ Ben – I heard they will be trying to get some local content on when they officially launch the channel …. mainly in lifestyle and reality though
I really hope that 7’s new channel won’t be like Go! and screen only American programmes. There is so much other programmming that could be shown whether repeats of shows produced by 7 or new content from NZ, UK, Canada etc. Does anyone know why 9 are able to show completely foreign programming on Go? Is is exempt for local content rules permenantly or temporarily?
Disney Programming should be on Weekdays between 6 and 9am on Channel 7.
I am old enough to remember the days of Morning Cartoons before they binned those for Sunrise.
Who cares for a Breakfast Show
7 just make your 2nd sd channel announcement already, this is getting more pathetic by the day.
also @ Kenny – ‘teeny-boppers’ are still viewers. Are you suggesting they don’t count as viewers? If so, please explain why not?
@ Kenny – 9 is winning some nights on their own as well. Last night for example, GO! only added to their lead. You really need to see a breakdown of ratings in order to comment correctly on this issue
It makes sense for Seven to do a general entertainment/movies channel over a lifestyle channel. Seven has a history of dealing with NBC-Universal and the Walt Disney Company and neither of these twocompanies are known for their ‘lifestyle’ genres.
I reckon Seven should have something of the following:
6-9am – Kids shows from Disney
9-12pm – Semi-old sit-coms from America
12-2pm – Movie
2-3:30pm – ‘Playhouse’ disney, or general entertainment
3:30-6pm – Kids shows from Disney
6-11pm – General Entertainment shows
11-6am – Movies
That’s competition for you.
here’s an idea channel seven, actually do some work and launch 2nd sd channel. we live in a digital age
I’ve heard whispers that Seven digital channel will be compromised of a general entertainment channel / movie channel….maybe this is a sign of what’s coming soon with movies now playing on Seven HD.
Meanwhile first run programs on Seven aren’t going to be shown in HD if breakaway programming is on. Bring on 7plus 7two or whatever it is going to be called.
Good to hear about that last part. Hopefully we get another general entertainment channel like GO, which is fantastic.
Then shows like Lost, Heroes, 24, Family Guy, American Dad etc could get primetime slots.
If they were serious, They would stop putting Repeats on!
ch 7 must be getting nervous.
Those titles are a slight improvement on the b&w 1940’s stuff they’ve been running. Did Seven do a deal with the ABC for daytime rerun rights to their old overnight movies? Still think it’s ridiculous that “Nine Wins” because some tenny-boppers were watching some other channel called GO!. No, I’m note a Nine fanboy. I’d say the same if “TEN Wins” because a bunch of Norms watched some other channel called ONE.
Between 7 and 9’s alternative programming, I may have no more need for Foxtel! Awesome.
“talk of a Lifestyle channel, are completely off the mark.”
i was getting used to that and quite liked the idea. oh well.
might be interested if they weren’t so old and i hadn’t seen them already. excellent news that it might not be a lifestyle channel. but lately i’m finding there is heaps of stuff on tv keeping me quite busy, when GO does the full launch it’ll be even more, i don’t know how i’ll find the time if 7 is actually going to offer something decent with their new channel.
could this be hinting at a movie channel? If these rate well surely it would be a good indication for 7 on what their audience want?
No chance of the mooted lifestyle channel?
Best news I’ve heard all month!
Is the name of their new channel TAAM?
Yes The Mighty Ducks will help in the ratings LOL
The only reason Seven are not bringing us a 2nd SD before the end of the year is they know even is Nine wins every remaining ratings week they can’t win the year.
Get off your butt Seven and give us a 2nd SD!
The more I think about it the more I think 7 might go with a “news” and documentary/ news magazine feature channel. Stokes could come up with his own little Fox News channel with right-wing opinion propaganda and everything!
