ABC gets the Lowdown on Adam Zwar

Adam Zwar will star in a new ABC comedy based on his life as a showbiz reporter for a Sunday tabloid newspaper.

azThe ABC will produce a new 8 part comedy, Lowdown, starring and co-created by actor / writer Adam Zwar (Wilfred).

Zwar, who has just completed a second season of Wilfred for SBS, told TV Tonight, “I created it with Amanda Brotchie, an AFI Award winning filmmaker. It’s based very loosely on my career as a celebrity profile writer for a Sunday newspaper.”

Joining Zwar in the cast are Paul Denny (Love of Lionel’s Life, Wilfred, Hawke), Beth Buchanan (Hey Dad, The King) and Dailan Evans (Eagle and Evans, Mark Loves Sharon.)

During his time as a showbiz journalist and columnist, Zwar claims he spent a week holed up in a Stuttgart Hotel with AC/DC, was threatened by Sting, had his tape recorder thrown out a hotel room window by Billy Idol, was heavied by Mark Philipousis’s bodyguards and spent an evening comforting John Elliot’s then wife outside her Toorak mansion after the then Carlton president was busted drink driving.

Added to his illustrious roll call of subjects were Will Ferrell, Tommy Lee, Jack Black, Shania Twain, Matthew McConaughey and a host of Aussie celebs including Stephen Curry, whose small toe Zwar broke at Sydney airport.

The series is is produced by Nicole Minchin (Just for Laughs) and Andrew Knight (SeaChange, Fast Forward, Tripping Over, After the Deluge).

A seven week shoot commences soon.
