ABC HD will dabble with a bit of multichanneling when it screens the 2009 Victorian Football League Grand Final live across the nation on Friday, September 25th from 7pm.
Victorian viewers will see a full replay on ABC1 for Victorian viewers from 10pm.
Highlights of the state-based league will also screen in Victoria on ABC1 between 12-noon and 2pm on Saturday, September 26th.
Head of ABC TV Sports & Events, Justin Holdforth, said “It will be the first time the VFL Grand Final has been telecast in high definition and footy fans are in for a visual feast,” he said.
“The VFL is the State’s oldest football competition and the VFL Grand Final, to be played under lights at Docklands Stadium, will be a magnificent prelude to the AFL Grand Final on Saturday afternoon.”

That’s nice – so they’re finally flicking the switch on the HD gear they’ve been using on the VFL all year to actually broadcast the game in HD too.
it’s a shame they cant put it on abc2
Last year it was on ABC1 live from 7:30. Oh well I’ll look out for the replay.
Last week’s semi final between Port Melbourne and Box Hill was one of the best games of VFA / VFL I’ve seen broadcast. Its amazing how much a decent crowd helps a telecast compared to the usual couple of hundred.
Any idea if they will extend HD coverage to the SANFL and WAFL?
They should do the same for the WAFL.

If you were in Victoria, you would still be able to watch Rage on ABC HD. It’s only ABC1 which will have the replay.
I think thats great!
thank you ABC!
Well I’m glad I’m not a Victorian, as no doubt the replay of Triple J TV with the Doctor , Good Game and rage would be affected.
