ABC HD scores VFL Grand Final

ABC will utilise its HD channel to screen an Aussie Rules grand final across the country.

VFLABC HD will dabble with a bit of multichanneling when it screens the 2009 Victorian Football League Grand Final live across the nation on Friday, September 25th from 7pm.

Victorian viewers will see a full replay on ABC1 for Victorian viewers from 10pm.

Highlights of the state-based league will also screen in Victoria on ABC1 between 12-noon and 2pm on Saturday, September 26th.

Head of ABC TV Sports & Events, Justin Holdforth, said “It will be the first time the VFL Grand Final has been telecast in high definition and footy fans are in for a visual feast,” he said.

“The VFL is the State’s oldest football competition and the VFL Grand Final, to be played under lights at Docklands Stadium, will be a magnificent prelude to the AFL Grand Final on Saturday afternoon.”

  1. Last year it was on ABC1 live from 7:30. Oh well I’ll look out for the replay.
Last week’s semi final between Port Melbourne and Box Hill was one of the best games of VFA / VFL I’ve seen broadcast. Its amazing how much a decent crowd helps a telecast compared to the usual couple of hundred.

Any idea if they will extend HD coverage to the SANFL and WAFL?
