LukeNLuke Nguyen, owner and chef of the Sydney restaurant The Red Lantern, is the next foodie to set up shop on the SBS schedule, with a 10 part series Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam.

Nguyen returns to the country of his heritage to take a culinary journey through the southern regions of Vietnam, from Saigon, through the Mekong Delta, and north along the coast to the World Heritage city of Hoi An.

Nguyen visits many of his extended family who share their secrets of Vietnamese cuisine, and help him discover the tiny cottage industries that have been creating vital ingredients for many centuries.

The first two episodes include the hustle and bustle of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), as Nguyen showcases street food sold on the city sidewalks, and demonstrates the recipes his family have kept secret for generations.

Later eps include the floating markets of the Mekong Delta, the highland city of Dalat influenced by French colonialists, the vegetable-growing centre of Southern Vietnam, the fishing markets of Phan Thiet, Nha Trang with lobster on the beach, and the small village outside Quy Nhon where tofu is made from freshly ground soy beans. It concludes in the beautiful and ancient city of Hoi An.

It premieres Thursday October 15 at 7.30pm as part of an extended series of food programming by SBS ONE.
