Australia's first ever poker reality series offers $100,000 and the chance to compete in the world’s largest tournaments.

poker chipsThe Poker Star, pitched as Australia’s first ever poker reality series, premieres on ONE and TEN from September 30.

2005 World Series of Poker champ Joe Hachem hosts the series that sees eleven Aussies compete against each other for the chance to win $100,000 and travel the world competing in the world’s largest tournaments as Joe Hachem’s protege.

Contestants will dive with sharks, walk high wires and face off against Secret Service trained “Human Lie Detector” Steven van Aperen.

Over eight weeks four female and seven male competitors have been living together in Melbourne and being filmed around the clock.

Poker strategist Lee Nelson will help judge the contestants’ performance.

The show ties in with an online poker site.

A timeslot is yet to be confirmed.

    since when is a game of cards sport, and it ties in with online gambling, thats a shocker

    Poker is not a sport !
    ……poker is a sport when it is played in a competitive structure as golf is a sport or even table tennis, tournament poker is a competitive structed sport where it is last man standing (or sitting).
