Capon’s eclectic designs in jet black were inspired by “a black rose.” His models, including two males, even had gardening accessories, complementing the watering can headpiece he donned for the grand final catwalk, recorded in Melbourne last month.

“I hoped I’d be in the finale, but no way did I think I would win. The Project Runway Australia experience has been amazing,” he said.

“Winning this competition is totally mind blowing. I can’t believe it.”

40yo William Lazootin was chosen as runner up and 24yo Lauren Vieyra as third.

Capon wins the opportunity to showcase his collection at ‘Rosemount Australian Fashion Week,’ attended by buyers and fashion commentators from around the world. He also wins a Holden Cruze.

The second series, hosted by Kristy Hinze, remains a flagship local production for the Arena channel. It is yet to announce a third season.

  1. Maybe North American fashion is just much, much different from Australian, but I don’t see anything commercial or marketable about Anthony’s designs. He is creative, artistic, and conceptual, yes – and makes beautiful architectural pieces – but I saw him as more entertainment than as someone who made clothes people would actually wear.

I was never a huge fan of Williams until his final show – when I would have given my firstborn to own one of his dresses. That collection deserved to win, hands down.

  2. @Lyndal
I too watched Project Runway on my IQ, but there was no way I was going to miss the final, knowing how impossible it was going to be to not see the results on Twitter, FaceBook or the news sites etc – I think David gets TV too 😉 and does a wonderful job here, much better than elsewhere

but like you said you have your easy fix 🙂

  3. @Lyndal Fair enough for regular episodes during the series but the finale, come on …. they’ve got to be live or you avoid all forms of media until you’ve ‘caught up’ with the rest of the real world

  4. @ David Knox

And I think that in “an age of Twitter, Facebook and instant publishing…” it is unrealistic to expect people to watch TV at the time it is broadcast. That’s such an old media expectation that mom and pop will sit down at 8.30pm and watch a show as it goes live to air. I think that expectation should be that a substantial portion of people will watch on time-delay and that we all benefit from not having spoilers published in an unmitigated way.
For example, I watch Project Runway Australia which I record using Foxtel IQ on one of the 2am repeat screenings to avoid clashing with other shows I record. I don’t even know what night it is on. I don’t need to know what night it is on. I just want to sit down when I have time to watch TV, go through my list of programmes and pick one that I am interested in. I don’t come to TV Tonight. I subscribe to a rss of the news feed. Again, when I have time that corresponds with my interest, I will sit down and bang through the posts. If something is really important to me, like Eurovision, I will put myself in a total media blackout – radio, internet and TV. Otherwise I expect, within reason, that I can go about my business of consuming media without finding out anything that I don’t want to.

If you look at the wonderful blog TV Squad they manage to report breaking news without resorting to spoilers. They get it. They love TV and they get what it means to consume it in the current environment. And they know what wrecks it for viewers. That’s why they wrap their spoiler information inside posts.

It’s an easy fix for me though – I’ll just unsubscribe from TV Tonight. All the international news is from sources I already look at and the local stuff I get from other sources such as boxcutters or the green guide.

    1. Lyndal I certainly agree that people build up their own programming via PVRs etc. I absolutely agree that spoilers, being information that has not aired, should be avoided / hidden / alerted -which is a policy I maintain. Total blackouts on Eurovision, and Oscars have been astutely observed here until they have aired. In running a site on television news I also subscribe to the theory that Aired = News, especially when the same info is widely published on News Ltd, Fairfax, messageboards etc. Given that we all have different schedules it is therefore best that I have one policy across the site, to maintain a clear position. This also helps those in WA to know that news that has aired in the East Coast will be published here. TV Squad, Boxcutters and Green Guide are of course, all fab.

  5. Anthony was a deserved winner on what he produced throughout the series, however Lauren’s collection last night was for me the most wearable and attractive.
Then i guess fashion is more than just the clothes on your back.

  6. After reading that response David, I will be very careful to critique your work.

The ground shook when I read that one and I’m probably 1000 plus kilometres away.

I agree with you though, if it’s aired in Aus then it’s fair game.

    P.S. Love your work.

    1. Lol thanks Brett….. this issue is a bug bear of mine given that people think they know best how to manage a site of this kind. It keeps coming up so I keep having to apparently explain myself. We live in an age of Twitter, Facebook and instant publishing. For every person who doesn’t want to be spoiled here about something there are just as many who come here because they missed it and they expect to find the info logged. The whole principle of publishing TV news extends beyond reality winners. If I wanted to write about something that happened in Sc 19 of City Homicide last night am I supposed to wrap it in spoilers because Johnny in Mandurah hasn’t watched the VCR he recorded while he was at indoor cricket? Sorry. World doesn’t work like that. The only way I can run this site that logs television news is to have a consistent policy across the entire site, to avoid a moving target that confuses us all. There is no way I would publish a Survivor winner before it has aired here (including Gabon and Tocantins), without good reason and major spoiler alerts. So therefore aired = news.

The idea that I should wrap it in spoilers means we would never have had a “Julie wins MasterChef” headline (while everywhere else it is published). And the lunacy is, that for all those who say it should be in spoilers, never ever give me a clear indication of when they view the sand as having run out and I am free to publish it in full. Funny that.

  7. That’s really poor of you to put up information about who won any reality game show on the font page. All the other sites I read have the decency to hide the information inside the post for those who may not have had a chance to watch the show yet.

    1. Lyndal. Yes it’s really poor of me to run an up to date site with breaking news.

This is an old argument that has been proposed before and is well known to regular readers of this site, as well as being clearly indicated in the About page. And when would you suggest I am clear to post the news that someone has won a major reality show? Tonight? Tomorrow? Next week? While I supposedly have to go and hide spoilers for winners of Idol or MasterChef or any reality show, other news sites such as the Daily Tele or The Herald Sun are seemingly free to run the news as soon as the winner is out. But no. There is always someone who expects this site to hide it.

Once again, the rule of thumb here is Aired on Aussie TV = Publishable news. It will be the same next Monday for the Emmys, so heads up. I never post the info for things that have not yet aired (ie. Eurovision).

ps. PRA finale has even been aired twice for God’s sake.

  8. I think that even if you come second, you’re just as well-off as first.
William did extremely well in the finale, he is very, very talented, but Anthony was just consistantly entertaining throughout the series which was what I think the judges found really refreshing.
The judges said they thought William’s collection was ready to sell, so they obviously were pointing out that he could make it without their further assistance in the industry. Anthony may need more support to produce such over-the-top clothing and fashion shows.

Now… I’m going to now make a point that is really, really, ghastly cheesy, but:
they’re both winners in my eyes!

  9. Anthony has been my fav since the start, but i thought Williams designs were the best of the night. Wat was with Laurens all black all short dresses? Imagination much???
