Big Deal

A one hour episode? Is Deal or No Deal really getting unnerved by Hot Seat?

aokIs Deal or No Deal really getting unnerved by Hot Seat?

On top of this week’s “Risky Week”, now Seven has announced a one hour episode to run next Monday afternoon, September 14th.

The special, to screen at 5pm, indicates “Andrew O’Keefe helps a family make the deal of a lifetime in an episode filled with surprises and secret deals.”

Yesterday’s Hot Seat gave away a cool $250,000 -but so far Deal is still winning the game show race (and TEN News at Five is beating them both).

There was once a time when game shows used to just be about a contestant’s ability to perform against the rigors of a game. These days networks keep reminding us about bleeding hearts and the supposed worthiness of a contestant.

We’re playing at home too y’know. We’re just as worthy dammit!

Can we please put the game back into game shows?

  1. Who here doesn’t Miss Temptation and long before that Sale of the Century.

My Mum loved that show and I was a fan too.

7pm weeknights haven’t been the same since.

Here’s an idea for Channel Nine.During the part of the year when Hi 5 doesn’t screen and when the episodes of Humphrey run out They can move the Charlie Sheen/Jon Cryer Marathons to 3:30pm We all know most of their audience are either at work or finishing school coming home and watch them get no viewers except for night workers, people who work from 4pm onwards daily,Housewives,Mothers with small children/preschoolers,retired and the bludgers.Once that happens I am sure Nine will do the smart thing and bring back the game show that was part of their network for close to thirty years.

  2. Seven Brisbane would be far better off reincarnating Nine’s Extra and throw this trash game show off the schedule – a quality local news program would provide a much better lead to Seven News. DOND ratings in Brisbane are clearly on the slide.

  3. Get this garbage off the air along with Mash.

How hard is it to find something decent to fill in a hour before the 6pm News.

But not a heavy full on Medical Drama please

  4. That’s why we prefer Jeopardy on W over either of these shows. Only 2 minutes per episode, at the same time every time of finding out about the contestant’s life and interests – that’s all. The personal stuff does not enter the show at any other stage. 61 questions (answers actually!) a night, or about 40 or so we can realistically answer once you remove the topics that are too American for us to know about. Shame though the ads are 100% louder than the show making it impossible to watch live at 7pm.

  5. I just wish The Price is Right would come back – with Larry!!

Deal is OK, certainly better than Hot Seat, but frankly both have been around for what seems like eons – TPIR is fun, fast, funny, you can play at home, everyone’s got their favourite games, and it’s got Larry and Shaun whats-his-face 🙂

  6. DOND is boring as. At least in the old days DOND had 3 questions to pick the player, but now they don’t even have that, and whats worse is when people say “i think i have $100,00 in the case” and that makes the contestant change their mind, when there is no logic one can use to find out what case has what, its just like the beat the bomb, say stop before you get too greedy and lose everything.

Ok i’ve vented and i feel better now.

  7. agree heaps -sick of all the sob stories, as mentioned before the shows that really worked – price is right, sale of century, pick a box etc all make people at home think and go along for the ride. Both deal and Hot seat bore me to tears.
Iwill stick with Ten news and intelligent game/entertainment shows on ABC and sbs

  8. Maybe the Ghost of Kerry Packer will come back to haunt Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen for punishing us with endless reruns of 2.5 men at 7pm weeknights.
Even If You have to find New Hosts Bring Back Temptation for 2010.

  9. Deal meets blue sky tv 🙂 Shows desperation IMO.

And edu I miss Temptation too but sadly it cost a lot to produce versus 2.5 men which cost nothing and it rated better especially in the younger demos.

  10. Agree with you 100% David, I am sick of these shows galloping contestants out in front of us with a bleeding heart story. 1vs100 was quite good at that, which is possibly why its not longer on.

When are we going to get a gameshow that just says, right this is Blah Blah from suburb, not lets get on with it.

  11. Never heard a sob story about any contestants on Price is Right 🙂 The only “worthiness” you need then was your abiltity to act like a complete fool.

  12. I really do not understand the appeal of DOND it doesn’t involve any viewer interraction; I’d much rather Hot Seat at least it is something you can play along at home too. DOND has no interest to me. I want something I can play with at home; a reason why I loved Temptation which should’ve been given a chance at 5.30 before Hot Seat.
