Ahead of a major launch next week about its new channels and tech upgrades, Foxtel is inviting subscribers to register for its new legal download system.
The site boasts:
-Programmes you can download legally
-Free access to channels in your subscription package
-Catch up on shows you missed
-Picture and sound equivalent to the Foxtel TV service
Foxtel has frequently indicated it wants its subscribers to be able to access its content wherever they please.
The site offers a downloadable player. It will require your Account number or Smart Card number.
The free downloads are expected soon, with further clarity on this due next week.

According to Wikipedia, if you look up Austar Channels, they have details on when all the extra timeshift channels and Disney XD will be launched. Apparently sometime in November. However, it is Wikipedia…
Bed with ISP’s? “cough”Bigpond”cough”.
I can see a lot of people going over download limits …
@O – ITA one thing they need to get is ISPs to allow the service with no data charges or you might as well get IQ or a decent DVR.
@Shakira the Nine service is next to useless besides a 45min show will us 700Mb while on iView it’s closer to 250Mb, yes lower quality but I’d take that when viewing on a computer. Because even on iView you need at least a 1.5Mbit connection for it to work without pauses.
Forget the time shift. Waste of bandwith. Either get up earlier or get yourself a recording device!
Yes, they will be DRM encrypted, fair enough, but at least let us choose what player to use… If it’s anything like Nine’s Hirem player then forget it!
now they have to get into bed with a few of the major ISP’s & all will be sweet
Damn no Mac support again! This is why I like iView, plus the fact it’s unmetered from my ISP.
Are these in a proprietary format, only playable on the downloadable Foxtel player? Can we share the files with a friend, or are they DRM-crippled? Hmm.
Apple Mac users must not be important enough as the service is only offered to those using Windows
All DRM infested no doubt.
Still no word on when the Kids and Family Tier will have Timeshift Channels for Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network plus Nicktoons and Disney XD are still possible for an early 2010 launch.
