GO! slates Lord of the Rings

GO! is planning a bit of a Lord of the Rings fest in coming weekends.

lord-of-the-ringsGO! is planning a bit of a Lord of the Rings fest in coming weekends.

Next Friday, September 11th, it will drop CSI reruns in favour of the first in the trilogy  “The Fellowship of the Ring” at 8:30 pm.

A week later “The Two Towers” will air.

Presumably “The Return of the King” is coming on September 25, but stay tuned for more on that one…

Last time these aired on FTA they actually didn’t get great figures. Everyone’s seen them or got the DVDs. Long flicks are also a big ask when broken up with ads.

  1. I may be one of the few here, but I seem to have perfect picture quality on GO. I have a 720p TV, but I don’t think that matters anyway on standard def does it?

  2. I preferred the Lord of the Rings trilogy that Harry Potter because no matter how many times I watched the movie, it still made me surprise and i really like the story. Can’t wait to see the return of the King to be aired on tv again…Thanks for letting us know !.Lord of the Rings Rocks!!!

  3. harry potter movies are quite long, and even with heaps of ads, it was still last saturdays most watched program on tv! depends what the movie is, and what kind of audience its aimed at

  4. I’ve been enjoying the Sunday movies on Go! since the launch, I wish there was more movies on Go on saturday and friday nights especially during winter when Im not out.

I love old 80s comedies, so why not some older action movies or similiar too.

  5. tony – mr and mrs average might not worry about it but we do. Why shouldn’t we complain?

One of the reasons why I’d watch this again is to appreciate the beautiful scenery in HD. GO!’s muddy compression might be ok for sitcoms and 2nd rate reality content but for such a cinematic beautiful film in low quality I might have second thoughts.

  6. Well I’ve noticed they’ve cut funniest home videos and replaced them with Flintstones and Jetsons already, so it seems Nine is not really sticking to their commitment to play entire series out (although I acknowledge FHV is a bad example cos it’s gone for like 20 years or so!)…so nothing is sacred on GO! not even CSI! How long before Fringe goes *yet* again?

  7. That’s the problem with really popular movies that have huge DVD sales, why would you watch them on TV with ads, now maybe if it was on Nine HD then yes, are they even out on Blu-Ray yet?

And yes Nine should cut one night of the CSIs…

  8. Blockbuster movies that everyone’s already seen, screened in pan-and-scan format at a quality level that even the most amateur pirate would giggle at.

Still, at least it’s not CS-sodding-I.

  9. “Long flicks are also a big ask when broken up with ads.”
But if it’s on Go, there won’t be many ad breaks. Their Sunday late night movie usually has only a couple of ad breaks, about 30 minutes apart.

  10. yep have the extended dvd’s already, but i think it is good to drop one of the CSI nights for a movie night, will keep an eye out to see what movies they put on after these.
