heyheyHey Hey its Saturday will return to screens at 7:30pm Tuesday September 29th.

A second reunion special will follow on Tuesday October 6th, just short of a 10 year absence off air.

The Hey Hey Facebook page told its member the news today. The fansite was instrumental in gathering support for the show’s return.

The mid-week return confirms an earlier report by TV Tonight in July that the show would return as a Tuesday special around early October.

Nine has now confirmed the airdate. So far Red Symons, John Blackman, Wilbur Wilde, Russell Gilbert and Livinia Nixon are confirmed alongside Daryl Somers, notes news.com.au. Seven is believed to have prevented Molly Meldrum from appearing due to his contract with the network.

So far Ernie Carroll, aka Ossie Ostrich is not confirmed. Jackie McDonald reportedly declined when the specials were announced in July.

Red Faces, Celebrity Head, Wot Cheezes Me Orf, Media Watch and Phunny Fotos are also returning in the live to air specials.

The Tuesday night move is designed to undermine strong programming by rival networks including TEN’s Spearmen Experiment and Seven’s Packed to the Rafters.

The show is being trialled to see how well it is performs, with a view to a renewed series.

A website for tickets is now online, and is also asking for Red Faces contestants.

  1. Will this show work in the year 2009? I don’t think so…

Generation Y will think the show is stupid and “whats the point?”. And the Generation X’ers who have now grown up will realise that it may have been good when they were 10 years old, but who lame is this show now!?

  2. I’m absolutely hanging for this and I hope it gets a longer run in which it can establish itself and evolve into a modern version of the old show, whatever that may be.
I’d also love to sit down with my kids and watch something like this and have a laugh like I did with my folks in the old days.

  3. Loved it 25yrs ago. Times have changed and I don’t believe it will work this time as its full of grumpy old men instead of younger more topical people.
    I’ll stick to watching Ch 7 & Ch 10.

  4. Yeh. I’m so excited.

I loved Hey Hey. It was fantastic!! I remember the Red Faces auditions and how the guy would always make those funny remarks at the contestants as they did their performance and then Red would smash the gong to end the performance and it was funny when the person stepped out, said hi and then Red smashed the gong after 1 second…So funny

I also remember they gave them a score too and there was always a celebrity on the pannel.

I also remember the musical acts that played on the show.

    So funny!! Great move Nine.

  5. R.E Molly: He must get a sweet deal, that he can attend the Nine-aired ARIA Hall Of Fame and induct John Paul Young, while being denied HHIT!

Why not bring back Gavin Wood?

    But JPY sums it up… “Don’t look at me, I’m yesterday’s hero, yesterday’s hero…”

  6. Daryl has wanted for years to bring back Hey Hey…even whilst at Seven he wanted that network to do a new version.

I know Daryl has his detractors but good luck to him anyway. Having said that I can’t imagine Molly Meldrum or Red Symons would appear on it as they are contracted to 7 now- and would 7 give 9 a free kick by lending them for the special? I think not!

  7. Wow! I can’t wait. Could it be that Nine will win its first Tuesday in a long time? This is a smart move to move it to a Tuesday, especially seeing as variety entertainment such as TBYG is doing so well on a Tuesday. Can’t wait.
