mtMaura Tierney has been forced to quit NBC’s Parenthood, as she continues to undergo treatment for breast cancer.

The series, a spin-off from the Ron Howard film, was delayed by eight weeks to allow the former ER actress time for treatment.

“While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won’t be able to continue in her current role in Parenthood, our main concern is for her quick and full recovery,” an NBC spokesman said. “Our thoughts and best wishes are with her.”

A statement from Tierney’s representative said her prognosis is good:

“Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive.

“She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”

The show also stars Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia and Peter Krause.

  1. A damn shame, as this sort of role seemed tailored for Tierney. Plus her involvement in the show seemed like a good sign for its longevity (while she’s not the biggest name in Hollywood, both Newsradio and ER were on the air for a fair while. Hopefully they can find someone good to slot into her role, as I’m really hoping the show doesn’t go belly-up.

  2. What a shame, I hope she makes a full recovery I really like Maura. She would’ve been a really great addition to the cast as well, she is a warm personality which would’ve really suited the show. Much the same as Rebecca Gibney’s warm personality is perfectly matched to Packed to the Rafters.
