New mystery, movie, sports channels to come

13th Street, The Style Network, Family Movie Channel, Eurosport, Showtime Drama, Starpics look set to be part of Foxtel's new suite of channels in November.

foxtel iq2Ahead of Foxtel’s press conference next week on its new channels and technology, the leaks have been trickling.

The leaks actually started back as far as June when a SneakPeek blog noticed a consumer survey conducting research on the proposed channels.

Last week there was Austar’s announcement of 28 new channels in its subscriber magazine. While the companies are separate, they share some channels, which left little doubt of the way Foxtel was heading.

On Monday the Knowfirst website listed a bunch of channel names in both SD, HD and +2 timeshift.

That was followed by an Optus TV website carrying further details on its channels, which it quickly removed. But not before the Media Spy website managed to snaffle the text first:

  1. I’m starting a Petition to lure Nicktoons and Disney XD onto Foxtel and Austar as well as Timeshift Channels for Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. Who with me?

  2. Its easy – cancel your subscription, save some money and enjoy life away from the content. Cause that’s the problem the content is crap. But that’s all right – just go back to the box, settle in and tuck into some crisps and sodas.

  3. Russell, I would assume the NBCU channels would be run locally by TV1 (as per Sci Fi).

I also imagine if this is the case then all the crime shows will disappear from TV1.

  4. Not of these new cable networks are new and original Australian ideas.

13th St (NBCU) Kidsco (NBCU) Style Network (Comcast USA) Discovery Turbo Max, NatGeo Wild, Eurosports are all foreign channels already running in the US, UK, Asia, Europe etc.

I suspect that each channel won’t be an Australian operation (programmed and produced in oz) but rather a cheap foreign buy in off the satellite like E! and TCM are now.

Showtime obviously will run all the new Showtime networks, I think Starpics and FMC will be run by Movie Networks (all Australian operations) and LifeStyle YOU will be rn by XYX. But the rest will al be piped in from OS I would imagine.

It’s a shame Foxtel is not launching a good solid entertainment network. Like USA or TNT in the US. Those two are the highest rated cable nets in the US with a lot of original programming. Fox8 is mostly off-net programming.

  5. No dammit! If I wait until next week I might not have anything to be riled up about and I’ll be back to trolling forums looking for people who need correcting your/you’re and their/there/they’re!

This is teh interwebs and I must be angry.

  6. Because you mentioned Girls of the Playboy Mansion airing uncensored locally here – and because it airs censored in the states I would have thought that all the censorship on the soup would be because it comes from the states with only a week or two delay.

  7. Yes I have. The censoring is definitely from E! Australia. They have censored whole punchlines to jokes. The Soup wouldn’t put a joke to air that the audience won’t hear.

When you hear a word getting bleeped that is from the US edit, when the audio cuts out altogether, that is E! Australia’s work.

I am aware that Girls Of The Playboy Mansion is censored in the US but don’t see what your point is. It has been shown here uncensored in a 7.30 timeslot.

  8. TheUglyBaby, have you seen an episode as it has been broadcast in the US?
And I am pretty sure Girls of the Playboy Mansion doesn’t air uncensored in the US.

  9. @Reubot No it doesn’t, E! Australia, blur any product names and cut any language they deem offensive. Which is silly as the original version already has bad language bleeped.

Blurring out guns at 7pm, Hugh Hefner’s gold diggers completely nude at 7.30pm is uncensored, go figure.

  10. No surprises there really just a general freshen up of the old channels,to create these new ones……..I was hoping to hear anything at all regarding Channel 7 to be broadcast on Foxtel satelite, but not surprising it seems we have been left on the outer again thanks Channel 7.It looks like i will have to put a new TV ariel up after all grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  11. Not one channel that interests me.

One of the few Foxtel shows I still watch is The Soup on E!, they censor it so heavily for the Australian broadcast that it’s unwatchable.

Time to get rid of the Foxtel.

  12. @TV Tragic, by all the leaks and going by the telstra website, its not that much more, an extra $2 for basic, an its only an extra $2 or $3 for the movie packs and sport i believe, overall even so i wont watch alot of these channels i think they all should be good for foxtel.
