nine id 09Channel Nine launched its new station IDs and slogan today, “Welcome Home.”

The ID follows an earlier report that the network would draw upon “The Home of TV.”

Unlike previous promos, it has limited new footage filmed, with the Nine logo supered into footage of established shows.

  1. It was the Eddie Everywhere at one time. Now It should be the Charlie Everywhere Network(That’s Charlie Sheen Folks)God help those of us with small children the day they replace Humphrey with 2.5 men at 3:30pm weekdays whenever Hi 5 doesn’t show during the year.

  2. Adelaide poster: Brisbane has also retained their fiftieth watermark, but have fallen to the third Sydney-induced blunder this year (first being Paige, second being Extra), that being the unceremonious dumping of the Nine for Queensland campaign. I would think the new package would look heaps better, if “Welcome Home” was not used in Brisbane, and they stuck to what worked best, for the station and viewers.

Nine, This parochial Queenslander’s not coming back. Same with Seven, their fiftieth promotion has been atrocious, as well as their anti-Love You Brisbane attitude.

  3. Well I for one prefer it to the one used earlier this year, what with the bright colours and blue skies, this one seems more mature and “nineish” and is sort of nostalgic, which fits in perfectly with the Hey Hey Reunion, and the “Welcome Home” slogan is better in my opinion than “The Home Of TV” which I didn’t like much. It’s a lot more like their 20th century branding. The only thing I don’t like is the term High-Def, it’s too American.

  4. @neves: Was the 2001 ident the ones with the scenes that pulled back into the widescreen shots, with the ‘still the one’ song? It has all the major shows, and the graphics looked good, a puppy playing with Don Burke, and stuff? If so, that’s the one I like the most too. It also had the Nine logo being flat, and each night was a different colour theme, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, etc.
Last night Nine Adelaide still had their massive ‘9 50Years’ watermark and the same 9HD logo, which is different from the one the eastern states had until last night. The other issue is that the ‘9 50Years’ SD watermark is shown too often on the HD channel, and from commercial break to commercial break it can swap with the HD one. In one movie, the watermark will change up to four or five times!

  5. the ident is well put together. but that’s where my good comments end.

the on-sceen graphics are dagsville, the music is annoying me already, and most of it looks like it’s been done by a first year student.

9 should really stick to their modest statements. kerri anne says something like “the only home of great entertainment” pfft. that got a few chuckles at our house. and they have tried to make overton look warm and homey but he is not very good at it. what is with the serial killer smile he gives at the end of the ident. scary.

why did they do this relaunch anyway? what was wrong with the old one. i liked that better, it only lasted a few months.

  6. @Bogues, when i read your comment about the flashfoward watermark it thought it would be about the same size as the 7 logo, but i was surprised to see it is about 3 times wider, and on 7hd it’s white instead of transparent. i cant believe they would use such a big watermark. i will still be watching flashfoward though, it looks like it might be interesting.

  7. @Bogues, when i read your comment about the flashpoint watermark it thought it would a about the same size as the 7 logo, but i was surprised to see it is about 3 times wider, and on 7hd it white instead of transparent. i cant believe they would use such a big watermark. i will still be watching flash point though, it looks like it might be interesting.

  8. overall i like the new look, the blue works well, but i don’t like how the logo is inserted into show material(the mentalist etc) it looks a bit lame, also why did they choose that font for “welcome home”. anyway at the end of the da yit to shows that matter
@paul, they did get rid of this logo a while ago remember, and there was widespread outrage and the logo was eventually changed back, i think the average viewer couldn’t care less about what the logo looks like, and no logo will “bring people home” it’s the programming that really matters.

  9. kill it. kill it now. nine needs to completely purge their inhouse design team, as well as their regular outsource graphic designers and search for a fresh, edgy approach. except for their 2001 idents, nothing has hit the mark quite like their fractal geometry idents on YouTube.

  10. Took a look at the long ident on YouTube – I don’t mind it too much. Can’t stand the Black Eyed Peas but overall they’ve taken a small step towards making the branding a bit more classy, moving away from the Seven-esque cheap-and-cheerful feel they’ve been going for over the last several years. It’s still nowhere near the old blue-ribbon image, which I really think they should be getting back to, but it’s better than the bright pastel colours and cheap animations they’ve been serving up.

In particular the focus on sport is a good idea, since Nine’s sports coverage remains its strongest programming and is frankly the only thing that’s endured undamaged from Nine’s glory years. Unfortunately they decided to feature Jarryd Hayne, this month’s NRL media darling who everyone will have forgotten about by next season, but I suppose that was inevitable.

  11. Hey Richo…the Eddie everywhere line needs a rest, i think he appears on one show now…not exactly everywhere…. and this forum is getting boring with the consistant 9 and 7 haters..each sniping and trying to win what ever it is they are trying to win…. just waiting to see what Neon has to say…iam sure it will be deep and insiteful as ever…mind you i dopey enough to keep coming back and reading it… David as always you are on top of it

  12. It’s still the same old logo though. Nine dots next to number nine, hasn’t it been that way since the 80s? It just screams to me “only old people and the unemployed watch this network”.

  13. Im not a fan of ch 9….hole in the wall, misogynist footy shows, cheap news values, wipeout australia, shafting programs, timeslot changes, catriona rowntree…et all, but I think the new on screen id and the font look awsome, and the welcome home perhaps is welcoming the old viewers who are slowly coming back (ratings prove this)!!

  14. @Guy….. blue is the network colour! its that simple… thats why they are using it..
blue is used because its a strong colour in the colour range.. thats what alot of companys use it….

  15. Everything has turned Blue literally. All the promo’s end in this Blue bold 3d text. Its horrible. I cant believe people actually like this cheap stuff. Nine are thinking they are Number 1 again you see because it is winning on the back of GO! and it makes me kinda sick. The promo’s look like something we saw in the 90’s. Um Nine get with the times its 2009, nearly 2010.
