SBS tops Australian Director’s Guild Awards

Three SBS shows win at the ADG Awards, including one for that brilliant Inspektor Herring episode of NEWStopia.

herring-still-8Three SBS television projects were winners at the Australian Director’s Guild Awards last night in Sydney: Tony Ayres for the telemovie Saved, Rachel Perkins for First Australians and Bradley Howard for NEWStopia‘s brilliant Inspektor Herring episode.

The television winners were:
Telemovie: Tony Ayres, Saved
TV mini series: Brendan Maher, Dirt Game: Down Among the Dead Men
TV drama series: Shawn Seet, Underbelly – A Tale of Two Cities: Business as Usual
TV comedy series: Bradley Howard, Newstopia: Episode 10
Documentary series: Rachel Perkins, First Australians: Freedom for Our Lifetime

Ken Cameron received the Michael Carson Award (for excellence in teleivison drama production) for his body of work including Bangkok Hilton, Brides of Christ, My Brother Jack and work in the USA.

The feature film award went to Adam Eliot for Mary and Max and Steve Rogers won the TV commercial award.

The awards were hosted by James Valentine at the Star City Astral Restaurant.

  2. Newstopia The best thing on SBS for a few years. I thought Herring was a masterstroke among many in the show. Some of the humor ranked among the most obscure I have ever seen and I loved it. It was an acheivement to get many of those strange sketches to air! One of the best comedies I have seen.

    Ken Cameron. I loved Brides Of Christ as a kid. It was a lovely series. I was very young when watching it but I site it as one of the great dramas Aunty produced. I would love to see it again.
