Sigrid cops it for Underbelly

Underbelly lands one of the few actresses to carry marquee status, critical acclaim and a beloved status by Australian viewers.

sigridThe third season of Underbelly has got itself a bit of a coup with the announcement that Sigrid Thornton will appear as tough cop Gerry Lloyd.

Thornton is one of the few actresses to carry marquee status, critical acclaim and a beloved status by Australian viewers. Fewer still are recognised simply by their first name. Sigrid, Georgie, Lisa, Magda, Noni, Rebecca….And even less have given addresses to the National Press Club or sat on the board of State film bodies.

Of the new role, Thornton told news.com.au: “It’s more of a character role for me. She is a very strong, seasoned, plain-clothed policewoman with a great deal of authority at her disposal.

“The characters in Underbelly are never completely black or white, usually shades of grey. I wouldn’t say there is a shady side to her character, but to call her a clean-skinned cop would be inaccurate.”

Since her 2005 role in the telemovie Little Oberon, she has predominantly been seen as a presenter on What’s Good For You.

She will begin filming in Sydney this month.

  1. I’ll just come to Sigrid’s rescue and say she is a great actress!

I don’t like it when actors have plastic surgery either, but surely society is also to blame for the fact that female actresses feel the need to do this?

  2. @Kay – totally agree – she looks like a freak these days, especially just after surgery on Good Medicine… (or whats good for you, whatever)…

And if being in Underbelly 3 – The Horse Flogging – is a good thing, then good luck with that Sigrid…

  3. Sigrid used to be a beautiful looking women until she had either botox or plastic surgery. She always looks too shiny and in need of a good feed. At least rebecca and georgie are real. I hate plastic people.

  4. Rebecca = Rebecca Gibley ‘winner of the Golden Logie this past year’
Georgie = Georgie Parker ‘winner of multiple Golden Logie’s’ formerly of All Saints, currently of ‘Zoot Review’
