Still the One for a new ID

Goodbye: "We Heart TV," "You Better Smile" and "Choose 9." Hello: "The Home of TV." But will it make any difference?

wtvSince the death of Kerry Packer and the loss of its historic “Still The One” slogan, the Nine Network has been in search of new identity.

It lost its “balls,” found them again, said “We Heart TV,” “You Better Smile” and “Choose 9.” There have been white hearts, blue skies, spinning discs and rolling waves.

Within the next two months it will rebrand as “The Home of TV”, says The Australian.

While the logo remains, the rebranding is expected to focus specifically on the network’s on-air promotional material and news and current affairs programs. A Current Affair is also set for a more corporate studio look. Two weeks ago Nine News Melbourne unveiled a new, contemporary set.

9logo9The new look aims to be cost-effective with promotions, synchronising generic program idents.

But cosmetic change is no shortcut to deep-seated issues that hark back to production slates, investment and programming. Until Nine addresses a disillusioned audience they may as well call it anything they like. Viewers will respond to content and trust.

Last week TV Tonight readers voted the network the most unreliable Australian network by a whopping 80% margin.

  2. @jay jay… concratulations!!
thats the smartest thing anyone has ever saidon here in a long time…
    i agree totally!
like i said before all networks at one stage had their problems…
and like u said jay jay, channel 7 did get very lucky!

  3. People forget that before Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost, 7 was struggling big time! They got lucky but had the sense to capitalise on those shows. Even though those shows don’t rate too well anymore, 7 were able to use them to build a family brand.
You never know what is coming up each season. Look at the ABC with Midsommer Murders and United States of Tara. Who expected them to rival the ratings of the networks? Who knew Masterchef would be the hit it was? That stunned everyone in the industry – and that is more Freemantle’s doing than Ten’s.
All networks have picked up new shows, some will fail, some will succeed and some will be massive! If 9 is lucky enough to get hits out of Eastwick (doubtful), Hank (likely), V (more cult following) and The Middle (very likely), plus get viewers with new The Mentalist and Two and a Half Men (despite what you say, it still has a massive Australian following and in the US one of the top rating shows), then in 12 months I will be reading on here how much everyone loves 9.
9 has a lot of work to do, but they know this. Its hard work to get out of the gutter. Remember they rely on advertising dollars to stay on air – if something isn’t rating, money isn’t coming in. It may pi** people off if a show is pulled, but better a show no one is watching then pulling the plug on an entire network (I’m sure some of you will disagree). I think a lot of you just love to hate 9, which is fair enough, but while you continue to hate, they will attract a new audience. An audience that isn’t blinded by hate.

  4. David?? how???
    i ask a question… its not inflammatory…
its not a rude one nor is it demeaning.
i just asked a question.. was not an attack..
if ppl express their options and say “what should happen or whatever” then i would like to know and so would anyone else…. what expierence do they have in the industry… hense what make someone an expert in tv…. i know u have alot of experience in the industry cos u have this site… i do have the right to ask what experience he has in the indusrty..i think ppl who make serious comments on how the networks should run or place programs..should be happy enough to tell us all what experience they have had in this indusrty.
    its that simple david.

    1. There’s a way to politely enquire about someone’s experience in television and a way to repeatedly demand “what makes you an expert?” It’s about behaving online as we would in public, which is hopefully with some courtesy. Other comments on other posts have also required some editing, which I prefer not to have to do. In any case this doesn’t warrant becoming the Spanish Inquisition… points made, we can all move on. Should you wish to discuss further please use the Contact form.

  5. david can u explain what i said was not polite???
iam kinda lost in what u are saying.. i expressed my thoughts… nothing wrong in that and i didnt say it in a rude manner… and i have seen much more rude comment on here by others.

  6. david….
is it nice to read some saying this????… from bindi..”i will watch any network that offers shows that interest me, and the shows 9 is offering make me want to vomit.”
honestly….. i think she could of word it better… dont u think??

  7. @ bindi… hahahaha..
firstly i never said i hated 7…i like all networks….. but now 7 is being very cocky!…. just like nine before this all happened.
yes you have the right to say what u wanna say..

    1. Vid…read the Comments Policy and then put some manners back in please. Otherwise this tone won’t be tolerated. Readers are entitled to like and dislike shows as they please. A little community courtesy and respect never goes astray mate…
