7TWO to launch November 1st

It's official. Seven's new digital channel 7TWO will be a broad entertainment channel with new seasons of Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24.

72Channel Seven has unveiled its free-to-air digital channel 7TWO, a broad entertainment channel set to launch on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12noon on Channel 72.

Channel Seven’s Director of Programming and Production Tim Worner said, “I am pleased to announce that 7TWO will be the new home for premiere episodes of our international hits including J.J Abrams’ Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24,” said Worner.

“We’ve been strategic in putting together a program schedule for 7TWO that allows us to grow our audience between our two channels, without sacrificing one for the other. It is a complementary relationship that will go from strength to strength maximising the opportunities for our audience and clients.”

Other titles including The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Murphy Brown will screen on the channel alongside new, primetime episodes of The Jay Leno Show, five nights a week.

7TWO will feature British television including A Touch of Frost, Prime Suspect, Judge John Deed, Rosemary & Thyme and Minder to premiere episodes of motoring hit Fifth Gear, Heartbeat, Holby Blue, Benidorm, Gavin & Stacey and Britain’s Best Dish.

Additional themed nights of programming include Action & Adventure, Lifestyle and Movies with family titles from Disney’s studios.

Cooking programmes include Jamie Oliver, Curtis Stone, Rick Stein, Ainsley Harriott and Gary Rhodes on Monday to Friday afternoons.

There are new and classic programs – including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Shortland Street, The Martha Stewart Show, Home and Away: The Early Years, Sons and Daughters, Magnum PI and Moonlighting – complete the channel’s daytime schedule.

Channel Seven also announced popular television presenter Tom Williams as the face of 7TWO.

“What I love about 7TWO is the great mix of the new and classic. I’m a big Leno fan so it will be great to be able catch that on a daily basis. And I can’t wait to see how the last season of Lost unravels,” he said.

“It’s fair to say I’ll be booking in some extra time on the couch. I can’t wait for it all to kick off.”

To watch 7TWO, tune into channel 72 on a high definition digital television or on analogue or standard definition digital television connected to a digital set top box.

  1. That song on the add for 7TWO is annoying as all hell! But it looks like the lineup’s at least as good as what’s on GO! so that’s a good start. Hopefully the channel idents are tidier than GO!’s are. I find them to be rather amateur looking, not to mention cheap. Despite what some people have said, GO! has shown some decent movies over the weekend, but Catwoman is definitely not a case in point. It’s quite possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen.

  2. a lot of shows that i was expecting have popped up, and a few pleasant surprises. but some notable omitments i can think of are: samantha who, Trauma, october road, knight rider, Beauty and the geek US, lewis and october road. of couse they may still pop up or make a return to 7 in late nights or summer. almost all of ch7’s 10:30 shows for the first half are here. i wonder if this means 30rock, Philadelphia. louis theroux ect will be bumped up to 10:30 on ch7?

  3. Cool… To me, this looks to be the better out of all the “new” channels. It’s awesome that Leno is on it. I wish Conan got a gig on there as well.

  4. ok this is going to prove how tragic i really am

but i am so glad that they are showing sons and daughters and home and away the early years i really hope they start from episode 1 after the pilot

    woohoo

  5. When I watch the promo vid, it mainly makes me think, damn, Seven sure is showing off their ties to NBC. I would have loved it if they were able to get the rights to The Office and Community, and recreate the Thursday night NBC lineup (sure, the channel sucks, but it’s the one night that really rocks).

Sniff, if only they had put on SNL…

Stargate Atlantis season 4? They already have shown that where is 5!

they most definately have not screened season 4 on 7, perhaps you rented it on dvd like I did or downloaded it, but you didn’t see it on 7.

  7. Tasmanian devil, i never did care what it was called or even what was on it (as long as it wasn’t sport) 7TWO should of been launched (as should of go, sbs2 & 1hd) at the start of jan 09,that is what i thought was pathetic that it took so bloody long.
i actually watch channel 7, abc 1&2 and a bit of 10, some go but never 9.
i hope this has made my view clearer for you

There is still quite a logn way to go between what shall be launched from next month to what shall screen from the beginning of the ratings period next year – Quite a number of programs such as Lost & 24 are yet to screen and just like Nine has done with GO!, the skid shall be built up over a period of time.

In any case, both GO! and 7TWO have a long way to go in terms of setting up solid-skid’s.

  9. I really want to know what will be on midnight to 6am (they said it is a 24/7 channel), I’m hoping like others that it is primetime repeats. Otherwise I might have to buy a new HD twin tuner recorder or give up on some shows like GNW, RSPCA and Rush due to conflicts. I’ll be watching ugly betty, heroes, reaper, stargate atlantis and lost when it starts, but these were the main shows I watched on 7 so overall I will probably end up watching less of the main 7 channel in the long run. Will still be watching slightly more GO! however as I watch some of their daytime line up but the 7TWO daytime doesn’t really interest me. I also like that there are quite a few movies, I don’t know that I’ll watch many in the first week but depending on what they screen I could end up watching quite a few of these.

  10. I hope this goes Nationally straighy away. Premiering Heroes in the first week, and if its only in capital cities then i’ll be annoyed. Newcastle is far from a Regional City/Town – so im assuming since although we have Prime instead of 7, but we do have 7HD we’ll eventuallu get 7TWO?

  11. Personally I think its good but not perfect. It is, however, better than what I thought it would be. Personally I would have put the following:
5:30-9:00am – Disney shows like Hannah Montana, Jonas, etc
9:00-12:00pm – Old American sitcoms like My Wife and Kids, According to Jim, etc
    12:00-2:00pm – Midday movie
    2:00-4:00pm – Classic shows
    4:00-7:00pm – Lifestyle shows
7:00-7:30pm – That 70s Show (or another sit-com, remaining constant)
7:30-8:30pm – The Jay Leno Show
    8:30-11:30pm – Theme nights
    11:30-1:00am – Nightly movie
    1:00-5:30am – 7-11:30pm repeats

Theme nights could be ‘Monday Lifestyle’ (The F Word, Escape to the Country, How No to Decorate), ‘Tuesday Supernatural’ (Reaper, Heroes, Lost), ‘Wednesday Family’ (Ugly Betty, What About Brian, Commander in Chief), ‘Thursday Action’ (24, The Sopranos, American Gladiator) and ‘Friday Flicks’ (Movies)

  12. How are we going to keep up with all our favorite shows, with all these channels?I’m already having trouble keeping up with GO! Especially the fact that they start their shows on time, but the FTA chennels, especially Seven don’t. I have had to severly cul the shows that I want to catch. Not happy about Lost on the second tier channel either. Will they still be keeping it on the normal channel as well?

  13. @David

C’mon now tell us about what is happening for the regionals like Tassie.

Go! needs to copy 7Two and put on a heap more movies and actually decent ones that people might not have seen.

  14. wow… all that waiting for more of the same, from Seven. Having said that I’m sure I’ll be watching. But a little innovation wouldn’t hurt.

It’s ironic that Nine came up with a branding that was fresh and vibrant, while the best Seven can do is “7TWO”. That video promo is sooo pedestrian!

  15. A very ordinary line-up comprised mostly of repeats (though the schedule is no where near as bland as GO!). I’m surprised that it took them so long to finally air Coronation Street and the other big international soaps on Free-to-air. Surely they could’ve attracted a wider audience than the likes of Neighbours and H&A *shudders*.

And there’s *still* no timeslot for King of the Hill?! Disgraceful. I was hoping that it would’ve been given a primetime slot at last (or sold to Ten).
