ABC acquires Richard Hammond’s Blast Lab

ABC nabs Richard Hammond's gameshow in which contestants use ordinary household objects to perform science lab stunts. More MIPCOM news follows.

rhThe ABC has acquired the science-themed family gameshow Richard Hammond’s Blast Lab at MIPCOM.

Hosted by Hammond (Top Gear) the anarchic gameshow involves contestants using ordinary household objects to perform science lab stunts, experiments and games. ABC has picked up all 52 x 30-minute episodes to air in 2010.

It has also picked up cross-platform teen-skewing series Aisling’s Diary from Dublin-based Campbell Ryan Productions.

The 40×3′ series, which airs on Irish public broadcaster RTÉ, centres on an Irish-born girl who emigrates to the US but returns to Ireland.

Meanwhile ITV Studios Global Entertainment in the UK has been appointed sole distributor of all Foxtel content.

The move gives ITV Studios all rights, excluding Australia, to Foxtel’s portfolio, which comprises 30 hours of entertainment, comedy and reality content.

In addition to representing Foxtel’s international programme and format distribution rights, ITV Studios gets a first-look co-financing option on future productions.

The National Geographic Channel has picked up technology and gaming show Human Wrecking Balls from G4.
