SBS will again screen the The Deadlys, awards which showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence in music, sport, entertainment and community leadership.
Hosted by Luke Carroll (pictured, also a nominee) at the Sydney Opera House on October 15th, they will air 3 nights later on SBS ONE.
Appearing onstage is Jessica Mauboy and fellow Australian Idol graduate Casey Donovan, Newcastle rappers the Street Warriors and song man Djakapurra Munyarryun.
They willl be joined by high achievers, including internationally acclaimed model Samantha Harris, 2007 Young Australian of the Year Tania Major and the Doonooch Dancers.
Nominees in the awards include First Australians filmmakers Rachel Perkins, Darren Dale & Bec Cole, East West 101‘s Aaron Fa’aoso, SBS’ Living Black, ABC’s Message Stick, Leah Purcell, National Indigenous TV programmes Marngrook AFL Footy Show, Barefoot Rugby League Show and Letterbox.
Meanwhile SBS TWO also presents a series of Indigenous Week programs:
Sunday 18 October at 8.30pm: Outback United
With the lead up to the 2010 World Cup in full swing, there’s another, quieter revolution underway: an audacious 10-year plan to bring the world game to Indigenous communities and to ensure that 5% of A-League players and Socceroos are from the Indigenous community by 2018. This documentary charts the history of Aboriginal football and investigates why Indigenous athletes such as Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin were lured to the oval ball as opposed to the round.
