Big Brother runner up in pub ban

2008 Big Brother runner-up Rory Ammon has been banned from Geelong's pubs for three months after allegedly assaulting police.

rory2008 Big Brother runner-up Rory Ammon has been evicted from Geelong’s pubs and clubs for at least three months after he allegedly assaulted police at the weekend, claims the Geelong Advertiser.

According to the article, police said they were forced to use capsicum spray to detain a 23-year-old Highton man on Sunday morning after he allegedly swore and kicked at them.

Police said a female taxi driver flagged them down about 3.30am on Sunday, saying she was having trouble with a drunken, aggressive male passenger.

“He refused to give his details, stating that police should know who he was,” Sgt Francis told the Geelong Advertiser.

The passenger was subsequently arrested for offensive behaviour, offensive language and failing to state his name and address. Upon being arrested and handcuffed, police said he also refused to get into the back of a divisional van.

Capsicum spray was used after police issued multiple warnings.

The man was locked up for intoxication at the Geelong Police Station and charged with numerous offences including allegedly assaulting police before later being released.

Ammon said an argument broke out with the taxi driver over the route being taken but that the incident was blown out of proportion.

“The police definitely took things too far … I think it’s wrong for them to try and make a spectacle out of me in front of the rest of Geelong,” he said.

Police are expected to seek an extension on the ban to 12-months when he faces Geelong Magistrates’ Court in December.

In October 2008, Ammon was charged for his part in an alleged assault of a cyclist. In the Big Brother house Ammon was also disciplined for “bullying” housemate Travis after an incident in which Travis and Alice were left in tears. He remained popular with viewers through to the show’s finale, beaten only by 52yo Terri Munro.
