Bomb scare at Champions League Twenty20

A bomb threat to Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium forced the delay of the Champions League Twenty20 currently airing on ONE HD.

chinA bomb threat to Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium have forced the delay of the Champions League Twenty20 match between Victoria and South Africa’s Cape Cobras, currently airing on ONE HD.

Both teams were forced to remain in the hotel for more than an hour after the discovery of a suspicious person at the ground.

Police and security staff swept the ground with sniffer dogs. Organisers insisted the matches would still go ahead, with slight delays to their start times.

Buses made the 15-minute journey with three police escort vehicles at both the front and rear.

Bangalore Police issued a formal statement: “Following a regulation security sweep of M.Chinnaswamy Stadium this morning, police were called to investigate a suspicious bag.

“A young man was taken for questioning by police but he has subsequently been released without charge.”

After a 90-minute meeting with police and a private meeting between the two teams where a decision was taken to go ahead with the game.

This year is the inaugural Champions League tournament. It was due to be held last year in India but was cancelled due to terrorist attacks in Mumbai shortly before the event.

  1. The person in question was reeased without charge people! False alarm then? Don’t we get these situations here too? Good work by authorities as it’s better to be safe than sorry but I don’t think this example is any different to what happens here (or anywhere else) from time to time. A terrorist attack is one thing but this is different and people need to get things in perspective before the paranoia sees them dive under their beds.

    Are Australians avoiding visiting NY/the US since 9/11 or London since the IRA and more recent terror attacks? Not when I last checked and their are no safety guarantees anywhere with this sort of thing. Alert but not alarmed people!

  2. Aussie tour of India next week, Comm Games next year, i really fear for everyone visiting India. How about the Games be moved to Australia, and the Aussie in India tour just be cancelled, all together. I think we play India far too much anyway :p
